What is the weather like there at that time of year? I'd like to be in a green, lush area, I'd like to see rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. I'd also like to see the sequoia trees. Is this possible?
I will be there for two nights or so. Where can I stay? What are my possibilities and limitations? I'm a college student, so I don't have much money. I'd either have to camp or stay in a motel. In general, what all should I keep in mind for me and three or four friends?

Also...what time of year should I consider if I'd like,
- lush, green landscapes
- dry land (for being out and hiking)
- weather in the 70s, low 80s

Thanks everyone for your great answers. I've decided I'm going to hold off and go to Yosemite a little bit later in the year, when I also have more time.

Tumbleweed gave good info. To clarify one thing he said: Hwy 120 over Tioga Pass (over to Mono Lake) will be closed then. Bu tyou CAN take Hwy 120 into the Valley from Oakdale. But if a snow storm is going on, Hwy 140 is better as it is a lower route.

It won't be green or lush in late March/April. The leaves on deciduous trees won't have budded yet. But you would have good light (12 hours on March 21, more later) and have the place to yourself (skiiers gone home, families and hikers haven't arrived yet. Sequoia groves are very close to the Hwy 120 entrance or the Hwy 41 (up from Fresno) entrance. Ask as you pay your fees.

Cheap lodging in the Valley - Camp Curry has tent cabins and showers. Maybe $40/night. Camping ($20 or so) will be totally available but be ready for 20F at night (but 40F is a more likely low temp).

If you need really cheap camping, take the road towards Hetch Hetchy from Hwy 120 just before you enter Yosemite NP. 1-2 miles down the hill, there's a Forest Service Campsite on the river. Can't imagine they collect fees in March/April.

Figure that you'll be hiking in a sweater. And there will still be snow and ice on the trails up to Half Dome, Glacier Point and Yosemite Falls so those are really hard to get up until mid-/late-May.

If I was looking for a March/April trip with warm weather in CA, I'd look to Pinnacles Nat'l Mon (NOT lush, but hiking, rock climbing and a bit of caving). Death Valley is getting a little warm but has many attractions (not lush either!).

Nice timing for Big Sur area. Hiking, backpacking, and a few hot springs.

Oh, lush (in spots), good temps, close to the SF area: Point Reyes National Seashore. Backpacking, hiking, wildlife viewing, walk beaches. Elk near Pierce Point. Look for migrating whales from the lighthouse. Horseback rentals available.

I used to work there for about 10 years. March and April or unpredictable so be ready for snow and or rain. Carry snow chains in your car. The 'high country' (Highway 120) will be closed for the Winter. The big waterfalls are all in the Yosemite Valley which is where all the roads lead too. Lodging is pretty expensive there. Outside of the park you are on US Forest Service land and can camp for free on any of the roads. There are three Giant Sequoia groves. Mariposa Grove, Tuolumne Grove and Merced Grove. The most impressive is the Mariposa Grove and you can drive to it. It is located at the South end of the park near the South Entrance Station on Highway 41. You can download a map at http://www.nps.gov/carto/PDF/YOSEmap1.pdf and view the park home page at www.nps.gov/yose

You need to make your reservations today! It can still be cold in March. Pack for cold weather. Check out this site: http://www.yosemitepark.com/
