I have this notice on forefront of screen for weeks...tried numerous anti-spyware/anti-virus etc...see list! I've also learned that it may be more harmful to outright remove it from computer! I don't even know where to start that process anyway (first touched a computer 9mos ago!) I have a HP Compaq with Windows XP which I bought almost a year ago. Does anyone have any other advice or solutions?---will need easy to follow /specific instructions ...Spybots search and Destroy http://www.download.com/3000-8022-101221...

Lots of programs use that backweb like Logitech, Kodak Easy Share.
Did you try ripping out programs in the add remove programs? Especially programs like printers, webcams, camera software all use it.
You may find that this will eliminate that.

One of the key indications you have one is when you get asked during install "Do you want us to periodically check for updates"

In the programs that I know have it, I usually lock it down. If I really need to use it

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

My research indicates that this is a feature of HP. It does not appear to be harmful. That is possible why all of your scans have not found a problem. Read more at....
