Why ? Because 'anyone' can do it ...
There are 1001 different ways to get ripped off ('reading emails' is one of them) - every way you turn there will be another scam artist trying to part you from your money....
The 2 things you mention are done faster and cheaper by machines in USA and peasants in China...
Try to find some sort of 'Moms Club' or Self Help group in your area and speak to the other parents ...

There are a lot of work at home projects you can find on the internet but be careful. Check them out before you invest any money into them. Many of them are scams.
