i have a TS friend who was thrown in jail for 6 months, she was just put in a seperate cell so the state would avoid a lawsuit of discrimination against TS, as for state prisons and doing hard time, i have no clue they would probly most likely stick a male to female transsexual in a male prison, but just have her in a seperate cell block and seperated from the other male inmates. if the male to female had already had SRS then she would probly be in a female prison not seperated but with the inmates, vice versa for F2M TS

I am a former correctional officer that used to work in the Florida Corrections system.

There actually was an inmate in my facility that was a Male-to-Female transsexual (pre-operation, but with breasts), and for their protection, they had to go into a protective custody section of the facility.

Normally, protective custody is for inmates who have informed on other inmates, incarcerated police officers, and other political liabilities who would be targets of violence or murder.

This inmate also had the cell closest to the shower facility, so they could be afforded some dignity when they showered. A male CO, however, was assigned to shower duty for this inmate.

Some inmates have the habit of stretching a towel across the waist high bars for some modesty while showering. Most of the younger guards have no problems with this, but the older guards make them take the towel down and just look away when they are showering in the shower cell.

If the inmate has gone all the way in their transformation, they might get transferred to a female prison, but the protective custody status remains in effect and they will not be assigned to general population like a genetic female would.

It has been noted that a male to female transsexual would do better in a male prison in protective custody- women are historically worse behaving than men in a prison setting.

I think it depends on which gender they are legaly; for instance, if a transexual who was born a male did not completly change over to a female form, then they would be put into a male prison. If a transexual had transformed into the other gender completly, and put it on federal paper properly, then they would go to the jail for the gender they have become.

Unfortunately with the males, as the law does not recognize the legal status of a person who has undergone sexual reassignment surgery, regardless of how complete it is.

Usually the transsexual has to be held in protective custody for the entire time for obvious reasons.

It depends on where they're incarcerated, but generally transgender inmates get sent to the prison of their birth sex. They are often made to dress & act like the other inmates of that sex and denied access to hormones and other gender-related medical treatments during their stay.

Written testimony from the Transgender Law Center to a panel on prison rape notes, "[F]or one of our female-to-male clients who was denied testosterone for six weeks while incarcerated in Orange County Jail, the consequences ranged from genital bleeding, to heart trouble, to a spike in his blood pressure."

I'm sure a lot of people think hormones are some kind of "luxury" good that prisoners should be denied. Who wants their tax money to be spent on estrogen just so Buffy can grow breasts while she rots away in a cell? But the reality is that taking someone who has been on hormone therapy off of it is indeed an act of cruelty and disregard for their well-being.

Aside from medical care issues, transgender prisoners are prime targets for rape and harassment from their fellow inmates and prison staff.

I think it might depends on how fair along in the transformation the guy/woman had

if s/he still has a penis (and they know it) I am sure they will stick him in men's prison.

if she doesn't then she will go to woman's prison

and if they don't know the guy has a penis then might stick him with the women but as soon as it is found out they will through him in with the males

i don't know if this helps .. but once when i was a teenager in dention center in fl they had this girl come in.. i remember she looked just like a model..really beautiful and one of the girls told me that was a boy.. because there was no room with us girls they had to put him with the men .. but he had is own cell .. by him self because that was the only way to keep him safe/// he spent most of his time talking with us girls mainly because the men kept giving him a hard time.. i would think confinement if not in a women's prison.. it would depend on if he had completed his sex reassignment

i don't oftentimes answer this sort of a Q, as a results of fact it somewhat is basically too risky and too open to easily uncomplicated visciousness. yet God positioned it on my heart to respond to right here. and that i'm in settlement. yet something handed off to me: truthfully, many of the 'rules' have not something to do with Christianity. They have been set down long in the previous Jesus walked. not killing not mendacity not stealing not plotting The sacredness and honoring of kinfolk (father, mom, husband, spouse) and so on. And the be conscious God, interprets to all languages and concept systems of religion, it would not represent a 'Christian' recommendations-set (oh i comprehend there are people who like to argue and debate - yet, please, get the better image right here). as quickly as lower back, human beings want to concentration rage & concern and take it out in this team or that team. it somewhat is a discovered societal habit we bypass on era to era (and activities arenas are large places to start to foment this sort of crowd separation) seems to me, that evidently that in case you want something achieved politically, get the main funds jointly you may with the main related human beings you may and there you have it - a regulation. rules oftentimes come AFTER not in the previous - rules are additionally used to fulfill agendas. So BLAMING all and sundry for something is stupid. i've got have been given to take duty for my recommendations, my reasons, my intentions, my strikes and the effect my strikes, recommendations, reasons and intentions have on the gang of humanity as an entire. If all of us did this with a sprint extra self-discipline, there could be an excellent shift, with little to no attempt, and Qs like those would not be mandatory. sure mandatory - maximum basically want to not think of deeply, yet spout off the 1st rabble rousing difficulty that includes recommendations and truthfully think of it somewhat is the actuality on the middle of their being. that's precisely my opinion. Thumbs down have not have been given any effect on me. Reporting this has no effect on me. So have at it, and whilst you're at it, have a impressive God-crammed day (what you think of roughly it or do with it is not my situation - i'm basically letting you have it) Peace be to us all and that i assume Charles Dickens became basically a terrible author while he had Tiny Tim "God Bless Us All"..... thank you for the Q i concept i wouldn't in any respect answer :)
