If the government gives people money for them to go and look for work , that is good (not sure how much about £70 I think), of the government . what I would like to know if that money is for a person to look for work , what money do they give the people to live on , while they have other bills . ( in London it costs well over £26 for weekly travel card)and the job centres expect you to write and post off job applications, failing to provide the prove then they stop their money how do these people manage to live on that money when you take all the expense out of the benefit that they receive, and do you think the government should help these people more in their search for work if they are showing that they are truly looking for work

as this question is referring to job seekers allowance , which is a benefit on it own, the only people that are entitled to it, are people who have lost their jib for no fault of their own , and young people just starting one the careers ladder . why do people class these people as scroungers.

if a person is actively looking for employment they should be rewarded and encourage to keep on looking not condemning them and discouraging them by calling them a burden to society.

these people genuinely want to work , but if the work is not there for them , that does not mean that they are scroungers.

I think that the structure of the minimum wage is wrong, if a person should have a minimum wage then there should be a maximum wage applied as well, this will I think help companies keep their employees .

but that would not be accepted by the MPs as they would have to have a pay decrease

with the implement with a maximum wage companies hold be able to employ more staff , or keep their products competitive .

this is my view and i am not say that i am right , but people should not condemn people looking for work as scrounges , they might be in their shoes one day , and then they would soon change their tune

I get £57.45 a week or £114.90 a fortnight. I use this money to travel to college and back, pay my rent and other essentials: toiletries etc.

Work wise, since losing my job last year, I have sent off near on 50 application forms and do you know how many replies I got? 3! Employers don't bother to get back to you these days, which I think id just plain rude! It doesn't take anything to make a quick phone call or letter to say "Thanks for asking, sod off, we don't want you".

I hate the fact that I'm having to sign on anyway. The job centre are absolutely usless. They couldn't care less whether people are working or not. They have had all relevant paperwork from me, yet they still manage to bugger up my claim. Every 2 weeks I have to chase them up. And they wonder why people go down there and have a go at them!! The lowest of the low manage to get their money every week and go and spend it on booze etc. The government doesn't give a monkeys basically. They don't seem to pay attention to the people who ACTUALLY do look for work. IE: me. Useless they are. I need a job and I could do theirs standing on my head!!!

the way the benefit system works through taxation means that everyone who is eligible to recieve it has done or will do work to pay it all back to society.

eu members can get National Insurance Numbers using the jobcenter but they don't get job seekers allowance and difficult as it is for them to pay rent and buy food with no money coming in, many of them manage to find thankless 'back breaking work' which they do happily, for a pittance, and much better than many native employees and small business people would.

take the building sector for one; eu nationals are paid much less and are prepared to work much longer and to deliver much better quality regardless of whether the job is plumbing, joinery, carpentry, ...my experience is that they have few electricians amongst them but there are builders and DIYists among them galore. Once they learn the language british men will have lots of competition for british women. Being one myself, I almost feel sorry for them :-P

But eu members not being entitled to state benefits immediately is as it should be. They will be eligible for state benefits after they have contributed to society (WHICH THEY HAVE already) I don't think that our economy would be nearly as strong as it was in 2006 without the influx of foreigners. We will continue to benefit from eastern europeans but the stupidity of lack of control in foreign policy will mean that 2007 will start to show the signs of why it is bad to assimilate such a large change in cultures in such a short period of time.

eu people have little experience with blacks and asians lack of knowledge breeds fear and racism often results. it would be a major plus to them if this doesn't start, but while the demographics change, we really can't know.

if you fall out of a job you can get help from jet, the job center, from volunteering into the new deal or other programmes the labour party promoted into the public sector. with their help you can have free travel, free internet and printing/enveloping facilities.

i've been made redundant a few times because it's a hazard of the sector i work in every time i promised that i'd make at least 20 calls from newspapers and internet, join three agencies in whatever area of england ... if anyone else copies this, i guarantee that within a short time you will be sitting at a new desk with a new job. guarantee it. works everytime!!

gd question though...

My son was unemployed and had £56 per week. He could claim housing benefit and council tax relief as well. If he had a job interview some distance away, the job centre also paid his travelling expenses.

never claimed it myself, it is disgusting people are expected to live off £3000 - 4000 pound a year when MP's claim £70,000 in wages and another £30-50,000 in expenses!!! No wonder there is so much crime when people are trying to survive on a pittance, How mp's sleep at night for doing such a poor job.

Job seekers allowance is to live on, you can also get other allowances like housing benefit, you don't pay council tax. You can also apply for a crisis loan this needs to be repaid but there is no interest.

If you go to the job centre they will give you stamps to send cvs, they will give you access to pcs (the one I got to use was windows 3.0) to print cvs, if you are going to an interview they will pay for trainfairs but only to the interiew - they give you a slip to give to the station that covers it.
