Hi! I have a LATITUDE D400 PENTIUM M 745 (1.8GHZ, 400) however the clockspeed shows only as 1.6GHz. Why is the clockspeed slower than the headline figure?

You should check if there's any updates for the mother board drivers. Check the Dell site they might have an update. After you update the drivers your PC should show 1.8Ghz. I had the same trouble with my pc and thats the way I fix it. I hope this helps.

Because the CPU was in production before the chipset was ready for it. A bios upgrade will probably fix it, but they're fairly risky and you won't see that much difference.

Because the jumpers are set at 1.6, or the person who sold you the computer screwed you on the processor.

it could be the speedstep technology taking effect, however you won't notice the difference between 1.8 and 1.6, maybe a 2% difference.
