My family and I will be doing the Haute Route this next summer. I need information on hotels or huts/chalets on the route. Also transportation from Paris to Chamonix/Zermatt to Paris. Is train the best way to travel? Rental car? I would appreciate any information, help, suggestions! Thanks.

I havent done the haute route but I want to. Anyway I have travelled in France and Switz. a lot and I think for what you are doing, the train is the best way to get around. The town of Zermatt doesnt even allow cars. You have to park miles away and take a cograil train up to the town anyway. And you dont want to pay for a rental car that is just sitting in a parking lot while you are off hiking. Also, France charges by the KM for using its highways and Switzerland has a one time fee for its hjighways. Good luck on your trip. I'm envious.
