My son's birthday is 10 days after Christmas so I made a family rule that there would be no combination birthday/Christmas presents and no birthday gifts are to be wrapped in Christmas paper. I also make sure all the Christmas decorations are taken down and in boxes before his birthday so there's not that overshadowing of Christmas. I do my best to make sure his birthday is *his* day and not an extension of Christmas.

I'm considering doing "half-birthday" celebrations for him when he's a little older. Maybe having a cake and a few presents on his actual birthday but then letting him have a party with his friends on his half birthday 6 months later. July is much better for an outdoor party (water slide, beach, park, etc. as is common here in Hawaii) than January. Then we can celebrate him turning 8-1/2 instead of 8! :)

Well what's weird in our family, I was born 5 days before Christmas (20th) by brother was born 6 days after Christmas(31st). I think both of our birthdays suck because they were too close to Christmas.

@Xander's Mummy Getting a job isnt as easy as it sounds. My brother, boyfriend and i have been looking for jobs since 5 months ago and we can't find any. Plus there is that issue of getting a ride to work. Any ways back top your question. Ok i can't really find your question. It looks like you are looking for advice maybe?? Well tbh your mom seems like she is really harded headed and there isnt much you can do about that except toughen it out until you move out. Yeah not the best advice sorry.

if they are close enough that people thank they can get away with only buying you one present for your birthday and Christmas then they both suck equally.
