It really boils down to whether or not someone knows the difference between morality and immorality. It's the path people choose in life: to use drugs, drink, be promiscuous, and follow the wrong road or to go down the right road. Look at all the crooked politicians - most of them don't give God a second thought, no more than Hollywood does. Hollywood is nothing more than a huge soap opera story - it's full of immorality. This nation was founded on Christian morals and principles. The Constitution and Bill of Rights were written according to the laws of God in His word, but this nation has gone so far by the wayside, ignoring and defying God and doing what they want to do - doing what is immoral rather than what is right and moral. A majority of people in this nation (not everyone, but a great number) would rather do what they believe is ok and acceptable and most of what this nation deems as 'right' and 'acceptable' is not ok at all. What God calls sin (homosexuality, adultery, murder, etc), many people in this nation see nothing wrong in it because they wish to be defiant against God and do their own thing. I don't see this nation being the Godly nation it once was. It is going downhill fast in the morality category and even our leaders and the liberal activist judges side with the immorality that most people today want to be accepted, being 'politically correct' rather than 'morally correct' - big difference there. So again, it depends on the individual as to what road they choose to go down - the immoral, ungodly road or the right and moral road, abiding by what God says is right and wrong instead of what man deems as right and wrong. In this day and age, man is accepting sin and immorality more and more, practically saying sin doesn't exist anymore - whatever you do is ok regardless whether or not God says it's ok or not. As for what the Muslims and Europeans think about us, I could careless about what they believe or think about this country. Who says they're more perfect and God-fearing than us? One European nation has permitted homo marriages, so they can't say they're any more Godly than we are! Furthermore, I know what is morally right and wrong - I don't let the influence of our decaying, immoral society influence me. I go by God's moral principles - not the nation or the world's so-called principles and ideals of moral living. The immorality in this nation does not affect me - I don't go along with mans' ideas of right and wrong, but what God says is right and wrong. I know I'm a sinner and I'll never be perfect in this life, but following the crowd, I don't do (drinking, having premarital sex, favoring abortion, etc.)

Questions that generalize and stereotype other cultures, countries, and continents like this one contribute to some of the ideas you mention Europeans and Muslims have about America. It would be easy to make assumptions about what kind of person you are based on your question, but because I truly hope that we can move the dialogue between nations and cultures and even individuals away from judgement based and perspective altered topics and onto something a little more productive, I won't do so. Therefore, I'll also avoid answering your question, but I will say that America does have plenty of people living in it who would consider themselves moral and decent, though whether or not you would agree is debatable.

Okay, your primary question says "is America a moral and decent nation?"
Then you pull a switch on us and say "is the average American a morally decent, religious person?"
I don't thump the Bible. I don't think religion has a monopoly on morality
Just whose morality are you interested in? Yours?
Premarital sex? Been there, done that. We were both of age, able and willing to deal with the consequences of pregnancy, and no fibs were told in the pre-game negotiations.
Smut? How does my choice of reading or viewing material affect my morality? It's kind of obvious from the conduct of certain wayward priests that constant Bible reading doesn't prevent one from acting on undue impulses.
I follow the law, I support my son, I vote for the more qualified person regardless of party, and I'm an atheist.
America isn't one mass with one belief. That's what all the fuss is about and why people risk their lives to get into our country instead of getting out.

Well I live in Missouri, right on the border of Arkansas and I'm a wiccan. I think nations shouldn't religious because they become too fanatic. I would rather live in Scotland or England rather than here in America however, my husband can't get a job because he isn't a Mexican. We have witness this ourselves many times. They trust them rather than a guy who would do the "jobs that no one wants" We barely have enough to eat and they are rolling around with their brand new cars. It makes me sick.
Anyway, no, America is not a morally and decent at all.

The Europeans think we're all a bunch of Bible-thumping dimwits.
Bit over the top, we normally put it closer to the 93.785% mark :)

A nation is only as good, or as moral as the people which comprises it. Overall, I'd say moderately moral and decent.

whilst I comprehend the message you're attempting to place across, i think of you would be taken extra heavily in case you freshen up the grammar to make the wording extra concise. additionally, you have lots of random capital letters. they're distracting out of your message. finally, finishing a letter with a danger isn't as persuasive as you would be able to think of. It frequently elicits the choice reaction.

No, but when compaired to a lot of other places, yes, we are.
We don't circumsize female children to keep them from cheating on their future husbands. We don't have mass genocide sponsered by the government (i.e. Rowanda), we don't limit our citizens to one child each and force others to be aborted or orphaned, and we don't have millions of people in the middle of a dry field with no food and water.
Yes, bad things happen here, but not on the large scale that it happens elsewhere.
