I spilled wine into my HP Pavilion ZD8000 Laptop. Two drop's got through the keyboard and landed on the motherboard. It seems one drop hit the motherboards "G" spot and it fried the motherboard. After I quit cursing and kicking and bitching, smoke started to poor out of the laptop at an alarming rate. (This was after I unplugged it and removed the battery so it must have dischared a capasitor or something..?) Anyways, i bought a 2 1/2 inch USB hard drive enclosure and my hard drive data is still good. I can acess everything except 1 folder. (The folder i need of course) The problem is that when i go to "E:\Documents and Settings\My User Folder\" I get a message box that is titled "MSOChache" and says "E:\Documents and Settings\My User Folder\ is not accessable. Access is denied". So the data in my users folder is not accessable and the most important documents are within my user's folder. How can i get into this folder and get my data? Any ideas?

Get a 2.5 inch drive enclosure for your laptop's hard drive. I recommend a Rosewill RX250-U Aluminum 2.5" USB2.0 External Enclosure for just $7.99 from NewEgg

You see, you can use that old hard drive as an external drive, now that you will be getting a new computer.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

First go to Administrative Tools and make sure you are a system administrator or a member of the ADMINISTRATORS group. Once that is done go to the User Data folder and right-click it. You ought to get a window with the properties for UserData. Go to the Security tab and make sure your userid is in the list of permission entries. If not, add your userid to the list. Then go to the Owner tab. Highlight your userid and check the box REPLACE OWNER ON SUBDIRECTORIES and OBJECTs. Click APPLY. Now you ought to be able to get at the data.

This usually happens when u set up your username and account in windows and it gives you the option to keep your folders&files private. I usually turn this off cause "I" only use my computer so what the hey.... But since you turned that option on there is not way to just "GET" the files off the disk without booting in another computer and putting in ur login an password... I know sucks right?

Log on as ADMINISTRATOR then Follow me closely so you don't get lost

dbl click my computer and bring up the explorer window

click on OPTIONS, FOLDER OPTIONS and under the VIEW tab....scroll to the bottom of the check boxes and UNCHECK "Use simple file shareing" then click on OK

Right click on your drive and click on properties

go to the SECURITY tab and then click the ADVANCED button

Click on the ADMINISTRATOR id to give ownership of drive and subfolders and check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and then click ok --

Once that completes, come back to the security tab and remove everyone EXCEPT "EVERYONE" from the permissions.....then click on EDIT permissions for EVERYONE and give all ALLOWS......hit ok then once you are back in the ADVANCED SECURITY SETTINGS window, check the box that says "REPLACE PERMISSION ENTRIES ON ALL CHILD OBJECTS WITH ENTRIES SHOWN HERE THAT APPLY TO CHILD OBJECTS".....

The last step may take some time as it will reset security on ALL file/drive objects........
