Although it can live in a bowl it will be much happier in a 5 gallon tank. They love plants and gentle filtration. For food they prefer a varied diet ( flakes, pellets, live and frozen food) If you do this you should be able to get a long life out of it

Well first off I have to say that Bettas should not be kept in cups or bowls. While they may survive for a short while, they will not do well.
Please consider getting at least a 5 gallon tank with a penguin mini filter and a 25W heater. This will give your betta the best chance for life.
As for feeding, give him only what he'll eat in 5-10 seconds and net out anything that is left in the tank.
Without a filter you should feed him once a day and no more. With a filter you can feed him twice a day.
A filtered tank will require 10% water changes weekly.
A non filtered tank/bowl will require 20% daily water changes.

Bettas tend to hate flake food. I feed my female 6 pellets once a day.

while i desperate i had to have 2 male bettas, I have been given myself a sturdy ol' formed 10 gallon tank and created a divider out of plastic stiff bypass-stitch netting (such as you will use with yarn, not floss) from a craft shop, decrease it to length, and offered a %. of those little suction cups that comprise steel hooks on them, took of the steel hooks and poked the knobs by the netting stuff, and then suction-cupped the completed she-bang interior the middle. Then I caught the filter out intake on one area, the outtake on the different, the heater went on the area with the outtake... and each physique became high-quality and happy. i think of if I have been to do it lower back, inspite of the shown fact that, i could get a commercial divider. they provide the impact of being nicer and are made out of like, a plastic physique and a twine reveal (like a window reveal) additionally, the quantity you're feeding them ideal now could be high-quality, yet i could feed them two times an afternoon, basically 2 pellets each and every time. That way, it we could them digest some, you recognize? And temperature would desire to be someplace between seventy 8 and 80 two ranges (yet a young temperature...)

For him to live longest, feed him two - three pellets of food every OTHER day. Wash his tank once a week - every two weeks.
Seriously, this works. My beta fish lived to be two years old!
