Vasco Nunez de Balboa (1475-1519) was a Spanish conquistador and explorer. He was the first European to see the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean (in 1513), after crossing the Isthmus of Panama overland.

It was not Vasco Núñez de Balboa the first traveller to South America, I'm sure cause in 1500 the Portuguese Pedro Álvares de Cabral landed in Brazil. He may be the first Spanish, but not the first European. Not to mention that Amerindians reached South America much before.
