I'm 40 weeks pregnant with my first and wondering what in the world my stomach is going to look like after the baby is born. Is it going to be all saggy, lose skin? I was in good shape before the baby...gained about 30 pounds and don't have stretch marks at all. I'm just hoping for a reality check so that I'm not in a state of shock when I look at myself for the first time...thank God it was for something so worthwhile as a little one :) Thanks !

After 6 weeks, if you breastfeed it should go down a lot! Especially if you have been in good shape. U got REALLY lucky with not having any stretch marks! My belly, thighs, butt got REALLY bad stretch marks :(
But really, after you have the baby, you wont be too worried about it, because you will be soooo busy, breastfeed and you will do great!

It'll look like a deflated balloon for a while. The damage is worse for some than others. The good news is that it can be brought fairly close to how it was before through ab work (after your body has time to rest up from birth) and yes, breastfeeding really does help. It releases the hormone oxytocin, which causes your uterus to contract. The more contracting, the smaller the uterus will shrink. Studies have shown there is a significant difference in uterus size between women who breastfed and women who don't, and the difference is even more distinguished after multiple pregnancies.

For the saggy belly, I have heard that oblique crunches are best, because they work the bands of muscle that wrap around your stomach, whereas regular crunches work the muscles that go down the length of your stomach.

You may still look about 5-6 months pregnant right after you have the baby. That is normal. Baby, placenta, blood lose is only about 14 lbs. It is going to be saggy and jelly like. Being your first baby it will go down fast. No crash diets. Just remember it took 9 months to get that belly it may take another 9 months to get it off.

Since you don't have any stretch marks, I will venture to guess that you will not hvae a saggy belly. I had stretch marks during my pregnancy and now have a saggy lose skin. Very unfortunate - but that's life.

So I am confident your belly will go back to it's normal self a few weeks after your delivery.

The first day after birth it might be a little saggy but should firm up, particularly if you breastfeed. However you have gained at least 10-15 lbs and that is going to show up somewhere.

To be honest for the first little bit it will still look like you are pregnant but if you work hard and keep in shape and breastfeed soon enough it will be gone. And yes if you dont work at it your stomach will be saggy.
