Um.. First of all, how a poll works is not by asking every single person which would be eligible for the polls. There is simply not possible to do that for every single poll. The polling sample usually represent the target polling audience. Unless the poll says something like there would be zero percent for your point of view, most of the polls tend to be correct.
Second of all, the notion that we live in the greatest country on Earth is wrong on so many levels. It is simply arrogance when saying America is the greatest nation on earth. Also, economically, America is already not the no. 1 entity of an economic body. That has been taken over by European Union. With the current slide of American economy, I don't even know if America can retain No. 3 spot ( China is destined to take over US economy. India is close behind it. ) With no end in sight for the Iraqi War II, America economy willl still weigh heavily for forseeable future.
Lastly, I have no problems being optimisitic, but if being optimistic without knowing reality is a fool's errand.

First of all, ask yourself the last time you have or anyone you know has participated in a poll? I dont know of anyone other than people with no lives and absolutely no friends. So dont be too worried about the statement. Secondly, the media seizes on anything they possibly can that will get headlines and cause mayhem. They love to 'stir the pot'. Most Americans are happy and the ones who arent are the ones who pay attention to the media and what they say. Once Americans realize how biased the media is, maybe they can start making deicisions for themselves. If you want an example, I was a police officer and I will never forget seeing a story about 'A poor loving mother of two brutally slain'. What it didnt say was this 'poor loving mother' was a prostitute, who had nothing to do with her kids and that her mother was raising them. Now, this is no excuse, but it should give you an idea of how the media functions.

Americans are a little beat up now. People needs some time. Its hard, a lot of people think they were misled to a war with Iraq. So everyday when a US solider get hurt or killed, many people believe its for a BS reason.
Government is more concern about letting large companies merge to form monopolies in order to sock it to the consumers in future. So everyday, people work even harder for less enjoyment of life. We're dismantling our high paying manufacturing base job because the 3rd world can do the same job for nothing wages.
American people think that leadership is off a little and needs some corrections. When the leadership get focused back on the American Public instead of protecting institution of special interest, there will be that feeling of gloom.

What is wrong with Americans? Nothing that isn't wrong with many other people in the world now or in the past.
Those who own the information, control the information. Listen when I say that we are conditioned beyond our wildest imagination. It started young and it is very, very successful.
A Poll is a piece of information. TV and Internet news is information. Book and versions (even Bible versions) are information. Newsletters, newspapers, etc. are information.
The information we get is geared for certain responses. Some responses are expected to take time, some are immediate. Notice I said "The information we get".
Is it only advertising information that is geared for certain responses?
As communication and information exchange evolved, those who did it well thrived.
As far as Americans being blind....All people are blind in some way or another.
Study....Discern.....Rest.....
PS Politicians, Trade Agreements, Unions, Wars, etc., they are all just cogs of a much bigger wheel

Not to rain on your parade or anything but you said we live in the greatest country on Earth, well that's a matter of opinion! I love America also. And you also said we eat well, well yeah we have an abundance of food here but Americans don't eat well or healthy,60% of Americans are considered overweight. I also agree with this poll because as long as Bush is president I don't see things getting any better!

People are starting to realize that our leaders are con artists at best, and they know that the awful things that these people are doing in our name aren't going to stop during 2007. Five years ago, we had the goodwill of the entire world at our side, and we squandered that goodwill so quickly and thoroughly that the rest of the planet hates and fears us more than they ever have before. What is the good that we are overlooking? What is there to be optimistic about in 2007? Sure, we have food, we have opportunity, but at what cost? We are ruining things for everybody else, and the good things we have are mostly unsustainable.
And the people that are dying in Africa are not dying for "no reason". They are dying because we won't do anything to stop them from killing each other. We could end the genocide in Darfur, but we aren't. And we're so awesome? The people who are begging for us to interfere there probably don't think so, and the people in Iraq who are begging for us to STOP interfering probably don't think so, either.

Because Americans take everything they have for granted and think the rest of the world should be like us or they are just wrong. I hate being an American sometimes because our country is so young and seem to have the least amount of morals and the least amount of culture. It is pretty sad. What goes around comes around though, that is why 9-11 happened. We are a huge target and we are gonna really get it someday. Hopefully I won't be around when that happens.

and u actually believe it??
how do u know that they didnt go to some goth club or whatever and take the poll?
how do u know?
when they take the poll on EVERY citizen in america, then MAYBE i'll believe it.
i think people are too gullible these days and dont know when to reallly trust someone.
of course, maybe it's just that we are all becoming too suspicious of one another.
u know, in the news, u see articles of someone getting murdered in your community, how the world is having problems, people getting raped, abused, killed purposelessly
no wonder some americans feel like this.
i wish we could have a world without lies, with trust and love.
unfortunately, there are people who prize themselves above others that'll never allow that to happen

I agree with the polls. Our country is going downhill very rapidly and here's why:
1. Our government is becoming corrupt.
2. Our society is becoming too liberal.
3. Terrorists are trying to destroy us.
4. Our military defense is doing everything throughout the world except defending our own country.
5. Illegal immigration is out of control.
6. Abortion is killing our innocent babies.
7. Gays are allowed to marry.
It's only gonna get worse.
