It probably won't make your shoulders any wider than they already are. If your frame is small, then it shouldn't change your frame, it will tone your shoulders. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't worry about it. If you get to noticing a sizable difference then just try training in some other sport that will work different muscles. I personally, love yoga; great for mind, body and spirit.

It will depend on two things. Genetics and how much you train. That fact that you are already petite and a woman works against you adding a lot of muscle. You body has some preset limits for how big you can get without resorting to drugs. I swam competitively through college and even training five hours a day, six days a week (including weights) I never got huge like some of my teammates. I'm just not built that way. I topped out at 165 lbs at 6'1". Also, remember, swimming is only going to add muscle, not make the bones in your upper body any bigger. Unless you are a competitive swimmer (i.e. in the pool 5 hours a day) you probably are not going to add that much muscle. I wouldn't worry about it. You will probably end up slightly bigger but the muscle you have will be rock solid and very buff.

Don't swim then. You can't prevent muscle from developing if your on a swim team or compete. Chances are you shoulders won't get to broad because you are small, but you might look a bit more "husky." So if you want to stay "small" try soccer or something.

I swim almost daily a couple of miles at a time and my shoulders look great. BTW, I'm 5'8" and am a size 4. I weigh 130. You will definitely tone up your shoulders if you spend enough time swimming. You don't have much control over whether it happens or not. I would see it as a good thing. A toned body is a sexy body.

yeah actually you do. but its more because your upper body becomes much stronger and you build so much muscle up there. its actually pretty funny because people can always tell if your a swimmer b/c eventually your body starts to look like an upside down triangle. its really noticeable in guys. but i swim too and i almost look like that, but its not extremely noticeable and ive been swimming for about three years. and no it wont change your frame size unless its extreme because ive got a small frame too and it hasnt been affected. you cant actually prevent it completely unless you stop swimming.

Doing butterfly supplies you broader shoulders. yet in the previous you get in a pool and take a check out to do butterfly you will desire to probably take stoke technique in case you do not comprehend how. i in my opinion think of its the toughest stroke to income and truthfully swim. continuously attempt to even out you work out with each and all of the strokes and shop it long to stretch.
