I'd like to have a go at designing my own property, for fun mostly.
Is there a design program I could download free from the internet?

I've tryed out many trial-versions... The free ones ALL suck, and limit yor creativity. and the good ones have something really important in it disabled, so you end up getting frustrated. If you want something good, you're gonna have to shell out at least 150 bux. Otherwise, go nuts with a pen and paper.

I have tried everything I could find out there, and they're HORRIBLE. Not worth the frustration. We ended up paying $40 for something which was horrible, so had that refunded too. By our experience, you can only get something that works for around $200.00

forget it
pen and paper
...better yet pencil, rubber, ruler & paper

unless you have experience of the design issues.. and there are lots you are on a hiding to nothing. a pencil & paper will enable you to capture the basics of wht you want. levae the design to professionals.. unless you are up to speed on building regs, planning legislation, and anything/everything else

the issues are legion... where you can site windows, sizing of doors, staircases, doors, whatever.
location of toilets with respect to public room, connection to drains, roof design...... engineers calculations
