That's illegal in USA

No way! Not legal! Have your responsibilities been reduced? Contact your human resources office where you work and if that doesn't get any results contact the Ministry of Labour in BC. See the link below for contact information.

These links might help you out.

Good luck!

i am from alberta...

that is NOT legal and u should either talk to ur human resources, or go directly to the canadian labour board (can find on the net)

how long have u been employed? what is ur employment? these are questions to ask first (ie, if u are on probation, etc.) the laws may differ. ur boss is required to keep u employed (altho ur exact position may not be there when u get back from maternity leave). there are a lot of questions to ask and u did not provide a lot of info.

I believe that is strictly against the BC Labour Code, so call Labour Standards and practises and they will send you a copy of the Labour Code.

Can you go to your HR (Human Resources) office and ask for guidance on this? I too am in the states, but this sounds really fishy. I really think you should ask the HR people what your options are.

Good luck dear.

I'm from the U.S. but I still think what you're describing is against the law in Canada.

Whalewatching (there are commonplace excursions leaving from Victoria) is something i can extremely recommend. except for that, on my own cutting-edge holiday I spent maximum of my time in Vancouver itself, so i do not extremely have any extra ideas for Vancouver Island.

I don't know about laws in Canada, but it's definitely illegal in the US.

I don't know about Canadian law, but that doesn't sound legal.
