My partner and I are doing a CSI like crime report in science class. our scenario is : Blood drops leading away from the scene of a homicide led detectives to the car of their suspect where a badly cleaned hunting knife was found. Prove the blood belonged to the victim and not to a rabbit allegedly caught for dinner by the suspect." we need to know what tests are run to determinewhich the blood belonged to and how those tests are run.

JUST FYI...THERE IS VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HUMAN AND ANIMAL BLOOD/DNA...

So everyone stop saying that....there are differences...but they are minimal...you are better off doing this:

NOW...

DNA test the rabbit...because you can't DNA test the suspect or the victim without a court order...

and here's the thing...

If you DNA test the blood on the ground and on the knife, and then DNA test the rabbit...you will see if the blood matches...

It doesn't matter if you can tell whether or not the blood is human...just see if the blood matches...

NOw...

When the blood DOESN'T match the rabbit's blood, your suspect is a liar...

HERE's THE THING...

I know your teacher is going to bust you on the DNA testing...but...

You MIGHT be able to discover that the blood is human, but you'll never match it to your suspect, and you may not even be able to match it to the victim, because you need a warrant to get a sample from him or the victim...and your suspect will NEVER authorize that...

And the victim's sample might be contested...

The LAW is what you are being tested on...what is and IS NOT admissable in court...

AND if you get a warrant, and test the blood of the victim against the blood of the knife and find there is no match...

YOU WILL HAVE TO ADMIT THAT IN COURT...

You can match the blood to the rabbit, because the rabbit has no rights...or...you can show that the blood DOES not match the rabbit...

BUT

You CAN get information that reveals your suspect to be a liar...

THEN you can attack him that way...and you can still get DNA evidence from the victim, or not...ususally once the suspect lies ..

HE'S CAUGHT

Attack him that way...

Dna testing..........dna structure for humans are different than animals.

Also, you can get a blood test from the suspect and see if the blood matches.

Also, match the knife to the wounds of the victim.

Animals and human's have differnt DNA make-up, so u could first test the knife for what kind of blood it is, and then when it comes back human blood, u can test it for the dna of the victim...

I found this link about DNA testing.. http://www.scientific.org/tutorials/articles/riley/riley.html

I hope it helps.. have a good day!

Test the knife for human and rabbit blood.
test blood at scene for dna, sometimes the assailent cuts himself
too.
finally do dna test on blood on the knife, and the car where the knife was found.
oops,do dna test on suspect for his dna.
and check scene for finger prints.
take plenty of photos at scene and of vitim,do a rape kit.
an afterthought, scrape victim`s finger nails for tissue evidence.
