Assuming that you are a guy and that the suit is navy blue or in that range, the black shoes are indeed fine. Not sure what the others are talking about. Open up a GQ magazine and you will see that black shoes are worn with blue suits. I couldn't find the exact question in GQ, but think I found one that is close enough and I am a shoe freak and a fashion freak, so I think that black would be perfect especially if the shoes are very stylish. Actually, I found it on the second go round under "formalwear" on the GQ website, where someone asks about a blue tux and he tells them to have the groomsmen wear blue suits with black shoes---Yay! Happy New Year!!

No I think you should wear black or white to a New Years party. Maybe a pin strip. Depends on the look you want. But a blue suit I think is good for during the day, lunch hours.

After five means black. Rethink blue with black shoes. It just doesn't jive. If you have gray slacks and a black jacket/blazer, that will fly. But, blue? No. Fashion faux pas. Really, dude. Rent something. people do it all the time.

Hunny, the blue after 5 isn't your major issue. You should seriously be rethinking the blue and black combo. Yes both are neutrals, but it just doesn't go. But in my personal opinion, black suit would be best for night events

I think as long as it's a dark suit you're good to go! In general, black and navy don't go together, but men's suits are an exception to this rule. Also, after 5 doesn't always mean black.
If you want to see how to put yourself together tonight, check out websites like Macy's or Nordstrom. "Shop" the suit departments online. You'll find some great looks. Have fun tonight!

As long as it's a dark blue, you're fine. As it's the middle of winter and gets dark about 4ish anyway (well, it does in Scotland) you won't be seen outside, and chances are the party will be dimly lit anyway. Personally I think you'd be better in black/grey, but I think you'll get away with blue.
