I love this movie. I've seen every John Wayne movie ever shown on TV and this is by far one of the best. Yes, the acting is a little unrealistic in the fight scene, but weren't they all at that time? If you like John Wayne, you have to see this one. Maureen O'Hara gives a wonderful performance.

I don't even know how many times I've seen them,in english and in italian language(because I'm from Italy) .At least 2 times a year. It's my favourite all-time movies.I saw it on TV, the first time when I was a little girl.I love the scene when John Wayne kiss Maureen O'Hara on the windy ruins of an ancient church!
I'm a romantic woman.

As is the case with most John Wayne films, it's wildly overrated, as is the (so-called) acting ability of its star. John Ford won an Oscar as Best Director, but that's probably because (I believe) it was one of the first films to be shot largely in a faraway and semi-exotic location.
Bottom line: boring. John Wayne scowls, lights up a bunch of cigarettes (most of which he tosses away angrily after a puff or two), and, in the pre-PC era, pretty much manhandles Maureen O'Hara throughout the entire film. For "Duke" fans only.
