Not a website, but I found the beginner guitar instruction/songbook by Mel Bay to be very helpful. Also the book by Hal Leonard.

Well, I don't actually know beginner sites fo you, but I know chordie(www.chordie.com) has links to other sites that help beginners (some say things like Learn Guitar In Sixty minutes or seconds or something...). Chordie has really good music selections for you.

A Fender Squier is a good guitar to start learning on. Basically it's a more affordable version of the more expensive Fender guitars. Not as great quality of course, but it's great for just starting out.

The very first song I learned was Green Day - Are We The Waiting. A total piece of cake. Had it mastered in two days. Then I learned Nirvana - Lithium. Stick to Nirvana and Green Day. Very simple songs.

It depends what you want to learn. If you want to read notes, then I suggest you get a beginning book. If you want to learn to read tabs, than you can go to practically any tab engine site. A popular one that I use would be www.ultimate-guitar.com.

The first thing you probably want to do is learn how to tune it if you don't know how already. Maybe buy a tuner.
