Anyone spear fish around the US Virgin Islands?

I've frequented St. John on recent vacations, and I'd like to try spearfishing. Does anyone know a good spot around this island. I know most of the waters are protected by the National Park Service, so fishing in that sense is illegal. Is there anywhere around St. Thomas? What types of fish are there to catch?

I caught a skip jack tuna. But I caught it with a rod and reel. I was in St.John's this year St. Thomas the year before. Interesting places.
