Some of my frendz say that firefox is the best browser. It also increases the surfing speed. My question is can any browser increase the internet speed? If so how!!!

It all has to do with what the browser chooses to hold in cache. Cache is an area, often in memory or, at worst, on disk where the browser holds data that it believes will be reused (such as pictures, videos, and stylesheets from websites you view often). This way the browser does not have to spend time re-downloading this material every time you view the page.
Personally, I prefer Firefox because it gives you control of many things (cache, cookies, ability to cache/remember passwords) that not only make surfing faster but also more secure if you know which options to use. So you can tweak Firefox to cache best according to your surfing habits (instead of guessing them, as Internet Explorer often does) and, in doing so, make it a good deal faster than Internet Explorer.
On the flipside, Internet Explorer loads itself (nothing to do with loading the pages) faster because many parts of it are already loaded in Windows at startup.
As a response to another user's response about Internet Explorer's being slower because it uses resources to ward off security vulnerabilities, this problem slows down the cpu (and makes other programs run slower), but most often does not effect how quickly pages load (the limiting factor here is the speed of your internet connection, in addition to cache, unless you have something insanely slow, like a 486 IE slower than Pentium One and pages with lots of Java it shouldn't make a significant difference).
Summary:
Internet Explorer is faster for people who both don't know how to optimize their browsers and are unwilling to learn how but, for experts or users who will take the time to learn the ropes of optimization, Firefox is the obvious choice.

I took a computer class last semester and my professor said that the reason Firefox (which I personally use) is faster because there are so many groups against explorer and are continually trying to bog it down. Firefox runs faster because it's not trying to stave off constant attacks like explorer.

Firefox is much faster and you don't get disconnected to it like Explor. i use to have explore and would gt disconnected 5 or 6 times a day. So you sohuld have Firefox

Browsers don't increase the searching speed, they just decrease the amount of memory used. Therefore, increasing the maximmum possible speed that your computer can handle, not neccisarally increasing the speed like that. I like Internet Explorer 7 the best. It's easy to use, and doesen't overdo everything.

Firefox has some neat feature and plugins but I'm too lazy to rebuild all my locations in it.

i use msn explorer when i tried to use it after installing ie7, the msn would crash constantly, i backed up to an earlier date to before the upgrade to ie7, low and behold msn explorer works fine now, microsoft strikes again, one would think that they would have the in house components work together

firefox is better and more stable much more faster then explorer and isnt prone to viruses like explorer is
