I think he is a talented player. However, he has shown such a lack of respect towards the game by being so darn cocky that I do not consider him a "favorite".
I think there's a lot of talented players out there and sometimes it is the loudest wheel that gets the most grease (like Rooney's brash behavior). It doesn't mean he's the most *talented*, it just means people notice him.

Rooney plays with so much heart, much more than anyone else in the world. He also has an amazing amount of skill. But he is not overrated, but definitely not the best ever.

he is the most naturally gifted player in the England team with an explosive shot and the first England player since Gascoigne who can consistently beat two players as soon as he gets the ball.
but yeah, he's played in some very average England teams. Don't forget he has not scored a competitive goal for england since summer 2004.

Rooney is a great and old player why don't you talk about Gerard these days hes the man and why dont you talk about england and liverpool because Gerard is in the teams and Steven Gerad is the one and only great match winner for me

Yes, he is and I do not understand why he has being allowed to stay on England's national team when he brings nothing to the team...whereas though David Beckham is not a great player, he is awesome on set pieces is gone from the the team.

it seems that when he tones down on his aggression, he loses much of the fire that made him perform against the top teams. (ie. for everton vs arsenal.) when was the last time he really performed up to his own high standards for Man U against a top-class side. the talent is there, but its up to fergie to bring it out, without opening the pandora's box within.

I used to think Rooney sucked, but i soon found out that he is extremely skilled. However, i still think he is a little bit overrated. even if its just a little he still is.

Because he has heart, talent and determination,what more do you need for soccer? I think his pay check also shows that he's one of the best players in the world.

he has the potential to be one of the best players in the world but until he sorts his attitude out he wont be.
