Mostly, in my experience, it is a form of dress. The people I know who are "goth" are just like everyone else. They have kids, go to the park, work, etc.

A 'punk' explanation is too much for me too list. (Try Wikipedia, luv.) Here's what goth is to me.

Goth is more a lifestyle or outlook on life than anything. They tend to accept that there are bad things as well as good things in life, rather than 'sweep them under the rug', to say, and pretend they don't exist. They can dress however they want, although many prefer darker colors and more dramatic clothes and makeup, and listen to lots of songs and varied genres of music, which can include but are by no means limited to, new wave, darkwave, ethereal, Celtic, goth rock, punk, postpunk, chants, heavy metal, industrial, Latin, et cetera. Not all are interested in vampires - in fact, relatively few are. Many if not most have good relationships with their parents. Very few have mental or psychological problems. Most are actually quite nice, if a bit saturnine. Very, very, very few are 'satanists' or 'devil worsippers'. Most of the young teenagers who listen to Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Slipknot, Korn, My Chemical Romance, Drowning Pool, et cetera and wear heavy thick makeup and studded spike collars and bracelets are called 'Mall goths', shop mostly at Hot Topic, and - this is important - they're not real goths. They just seem to think they are. They act disturbed and surly and try to impress/intimidate people. It seldom works, as most are obviously pathetic, and almost all will (thankfully) grow out of it. If you'd like a comprehensive explanation, try visiting goth.net.

Theyre both far too complex to answer here, but an answer i can give

Punk and Goth are both too musical subcultures, punk, originally the starter.

Punk to me is DIY ethics, determination to be yourself, reguardless of popular opinion, its the music produced in the underground by people who carry the "punk belief system" an example would be The Decendants, The Buzzcocks, 45 Grave, Danzig, The Misfits, US Bombs etc etc..Punk is ussually an underground movement to start change, a lot with civil rights and war, punks ussually have an agenda to erase predudice, and most I've met are pretty anti-violence

Goth basically shot out of punk in the early-mid 80's, many believe this to be the change in the punk scene when the band Bauhaus made the song Bela Lugosi's Dead, Goth as a subculture is moderatly the same as punk, with a darker spin on life, we carry a lot of the same beliefs, such as anti-violence, anti-predudice, the main differance between goth and punk is the music, some gothic bands are Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, The Cruxshadows, Bella Morte, Xandria, Malice Mizer, VNV Nation etc etc..

Goth has also gone through the changes punk did, producing Cyber-Goths, Industrialists, Death Rockers, etc

True Goth and True Punk is not:
--Marylin Mansons pseudo goth following that reguards him as a God
--A violent group of people who want to kill everyone
--A bigotted group of white power idiots
--A phase among real Goths/Punks, I know many mature, grown up people who are into the subculture, most I know who arent doing it as a phase are 20+ not to say It's impossible to be younger and Goth/Punk
--Dressing the way they do just to follow a trend, I know many who dont dress that much differant from a "normal" person
--Immature, Theyre ussually some of most quiet, mature people around, we're not the ones shouting stuff at people from our cars as we drive by
--Stupid, We're ussually very intellegent, our subculture as a whole values intellegence above many things
--Rich White Suburban Kids striving to be differant, I cant tell you how much this phrase angers me, anybody who thinks this needs to study into the real subculture..
--Satanic, While I know a few gothic satanists, it isnt engraned into our subculture, Many goths are christian, athiest, ive heard of a few muslim ones, some jews, etc

Goth nor Punk is not affiliated in any way by things done by people incorrectly labeled as goth/punk like school shootings, and we are not as bigotted as many people would like you to belief, though there was a pseudo-punk nazi movement in the past that rightfully so is near death..

These are only the very basics of the subcultures, if you want a better answer Wikipedia has an okay article, and you may e-mail me if you like

Goths dont listen to emo music......where did u get that??

well punk rock has changed a lot and it isnt the same as it was in the 80's when it started obviously. Times change, things evolve. Now punk rock has divided into many types, and there is one for everyone.

Well, from personal experience, goths are those upper-middle class teenagers with entirely too much time alone, which breeds angst and discontent. The ones I have met do not seem entirely too angry, weird, or intelligent, but rather seem like ordinary people who have chosen to dress a certain way to stand out.

Punk, by common definition, is the rare and dying breed of DIY'ers who stay off the grid by choice, somewhat like modern day gypsies who wear plaid a lot. The people I know, however, that have chosen to label themselves as 'punk" are similar to goths, in the angsty, hate the world, and I'm superior to you because I don't conform. I've always thought goth and punk were just labels for the "somewhat rebellious" stage of early adulthood in which angst and so-called non-conformity are the basic separating traits. Somewhat pathetic, but mostly just a stage.

Punk is hard screaming rock where they wear a lot of chains and have spiky, dyed hair and stuff like that. Not the punk wannabees like Blink-182 no offense to them I love them but they are not punk.
Goth is people who wear all black and basically hate the world and worship death and/or the devil and are very depressing and listen to emo music.

To me me punk means Ramones, or loud angry music, nonconformist. Goth means pasty white make up dark eye shadow, black finger nail polish, all black clothes. Don't know about the music. Still they are nonconformists.

Punk? Goth? It's not what you are on the outside, but rather the inside. Goth I can answer. Most Goths are morbid (depressed), miserable, lonely, badasses with major attitude problems. They enjoy the darker things life has to offer, and are rather angry. Their style is black -black clothes, black lips, black makeup, black hair... All to reflect the internal black. Most Goths enjoy writing poetry -which tends to be dark and eerie. Their music style is often heavy, angry metals, rock, sometimes punk rock...
