Now, no one jump all over me, lol! Non-judgemental, right?
you need to educate yourself as to what you are getting into. Your focus and control will need to be developed before you even think about this.As said before, NOT beginner stuff. Good luck. BE CAREFUL- dd

Yeah, not beginner stuff... but if you are looking for a threshold to Chaos Magick... Peter Carroll (Liber Null and the Psychonaut, Liber Kaos, Cyber Kaos)... those'll get you on the trekking path...

Okay, here's the deal. People have a LOT of misconceptions about Chaos magic.
Chaos magic is not about disorder.
It's not about evoking Tiamat to destroy your enemies.
It's not about black magic.
I've been practicing Chaos magic for about three years now; I've been a pagan and a magician for about a decade.
People get freaked out about the name because they think "OMG CHAOS!!!!111!!!one!!" Chaos, in this context, is in the spirit of the original Greek word--it is pure potential. Think of it this way. Chaos is a ball of Play-doh. You make it into a figure of a person--that's Order. You then squish the little figure--that's disorder/destruction. You then roll the Play-doh back into a ball adn put it in its cup for the next time--back to Chaos.
Chaos magic is infinitely practical; it strips away all the religious and spiritual trappings and leaves you with a very streamlined, bare-bones magical system. You can add your own trappings to it as you see fit, but Chaos magic teaches you the elements of magic that are at the heart of every paradigm. It also teaches you to have a much more flexible worldview; quantum physics contributed heavily to its creation. In short, it;'s about *possibilities*.
These days I practice a derivative of chaos magic that my husband, Taylor Ellwood, termed "experimental magic"; where Chaos magic is about getting results, experimental magic is about pushing the very boundaries of magic itself to see what it can do. But our backgrounds in Chaos magic contributed a lot to our current path. I'm still also a pagan in spirituality; I work a lot with totems and animal spirits, and I do have a personal code of ethics, though it's not the Threefold Law (which, by the way, is a Wiccan thing, not universal--if you *believe* wholeheartedly that what you do comes back on you, that's what you're going to manifest into your own reality. Reality is a lot more belief-based than many people give it credit for).
So if you want a good start on Chaos magic, check out http://www.chaosmatrix.org . It has some good essays to get you started. As for books, the first one I would recommend picking up is "The Four Powers" by Nicholas Graham; it's an introduction to the practice of magic in general, and it covers a lot of different models and paradigms of magic, but most of the exercises are based in Chaos magic. The book isn't currently out, but it shoudl be very soon--last I heard the publisher had sent it to the printer, so it should be out in the next couple of weeks. There is an entry at Amazon.com for it; just search for the author's name.
Another good one is "The Paradigmal Pirate" by Josh Wetzel; it actually was originally written as a training manual for the Illuminates of Thanateros, a Chaos magic initiatory group, but anyone can use it. It has both basic material, and expansion into more advanced territory. As for the two best-known authors in Chaos magic, I'd start with "Liber Null and Psychonaut" by Peter J. Carroll, and "Condensed Chaos" by Phil Hine.
Just my two cents on the matter.
EDIT: Also, don't be afraid of starting out with Chaos magic. It's really not that scary. Yeah, you have the chance of getting hurt, but that happens with anything. Start with Graham or Wetzel and you'll be fine.

I would recommend against Chaos magick; because if the person is not extremely careful; it tends to lead people toward the left hand or evil path of magick.

There are two theories surrounding 'Chaos Magic(k)'....
1- Chaos
...(all things not 'ordered'; causing a loss of 'Order' in the area)
2- Chaos
...('Nature' at its core; which is uncontrolled causing it to flourish)
Either way, I guess I have to ask which one you are searching for since they are not compatible and will do some rather odd things if you are not 'focused'.

No. Please do not attempt chaos magic, especially without any real help. It's not something you should play at. Remember the rule of three: what you send out comes back to you times three. Find someone to teach you white magic and pay very close attention, please.

read a bunch of metaphysical, or new age, or pagan or wiccan or witchcraft or magic books; take the parts that you like, flush the rest; mix the parts you have taken together and try them out.
Get stuff wrong, get hurt, learn, change. Try again, get some stuff right, try again.

Keep the stuff that went right, mix it together, try it again and get it better, learn, change, grow.
