Infection is your biggest problem, not pain. Before you decide to go through with this, ask yourself: are you willing to have your nipple and breast become infected, to see a doctor for it, to endure the pain and fever and antibiotic treatment? It might not happen, but your chances are like flipping a coin. Bacteria are EVERYWHERE, including living on your skin. I think you should have a professional do it. If you are really set on doing it yourself, use Betadine solution (ask the drugstore), scrub your hands and entire breast area for 5 minutes with the solution, and soak the needle and nipple ring in rubbing alcohol. Then you can use ice to numb the area, but it will take 5 minutes or so to get numb. Be careful not to spread bacteria to the area from any other object. If someone is helping you, have them disinfect their hands as well. Good luck, but I hope you change your mind.

Damn right, people are going to give you s**t for asking. All body modifications should be done by professionals - they are trained, know what they are doing, everything used has been sterilized correctly. All of this means you will end up with the best possible body art. If you need to ask how to do it, especially on Yahoo Answers, you shouldn't be doing it. Simple. Rubbing alcohol won't clean the needle or skin enough to prevent infection - the needle needs to either be a sterile, single use needle which some piercers favour; or has gone thorugh stringent autoclaving processes, the same as what surgical instruments go through between patients. If you want the piercing that badly, you will have no problems getting it done professionally. Those of us who are serious about body mod only ever get the best of the best to do our tattoos and piercings, and it shows. The only problems I have had with any of my 20+ piercings have been my navel which was done by an apprentice out of the studio (still using sterile equipment), and my conch, which was done in a hurry as part of a world record attempt by a professional. Body modification is traumatic on the body - the least you can do is have your mods done by someone who knows what to do.

when self piercing the nipple area, be sure to sterilize the area first using rubbing alcohol and iodine (if available)
use a sterilized needle; if you don't have a piercing needle, sterilize a sewing needle with a flame or by putting it in a pot of boiling water for about five minutes to kill the bacteria
use ice or a cold pack to raise the nipple, and be sure to be standing during the piercing for proper placement
put the piercing at the base of the nipple to minimize chance of rejection
upkeep the piercing with daily saltwater washes by filling a shotglass half way with sea salt and water and holding the glass to the area for two minutes
enjoy! ^..^

My friend did that. I think he numbed it with lemons and ice cubes before he actually pierced it. He said it really helped.

You can use a safety pin. But the chance of infection is high. Your best bet is to go to a tattoo/body piercing shop.
