so there's 3 scenarios here

1. i go inside to a fast food place.. i stand way back and look at the menu, yet the worker goes up to the cash register and waits for me to order, so i feel rushed.

2. i go through the drive-thru. they say "take your time and order when you're ready" but i feel rushed anyway. it's weird having someone wait on you to talk if you take very long.

3. out to eat at a restaurant, the waiter asks "are you ready or do you need some more time?" i say "need some more time" and they come back later. this is the best scenario, but still a little rushed if you want to check out the menu.

so, do you feel rushed ordering food?

I spent 12 years as a shift manager for Taco Bell, which is owned by Yumcon, which also owns KFC, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers, and A&W. Do not blame the workers! Yumcon has a speed of service policy in their drive thrus that requires clerks to get 60% or more of all orders out in 60 seconds or less from the time you pull up to the window. In order to facilitate this they now have digital timers above every window on the inside of the store. Look for it the next time you go inside. It also tracks how long you sit at the menu on a separate count, and they blame the worker (and can write them up) if the numbers show that a large percent of orders take more than sixty seconds ordering. Can you believe that? They punish the clerk if YOU don't know what you want. Of course you're being rushed - the company stands to make more money if they get 60 cars thru the window each hour as opposed to 30. And those counters are working no matter if there's one car or twenty in the line. The best thing to do is to be nice, smile and tip the window clerk a dollar or two to ensure your order is made right - they'll be very grateful and remember that you were the one bright ray of sunshine in a hard day where everyone else yelled at them - and next time they'll be sure to take care of you. If that doesn't work, get their 1 800 number and phone in a general complaint against the company speed of service policy. Tell them you'd rather get the food you paid for, made the way you ordered it, with friendly service, than to have it slopped together, made wrong, shoved into your face, and have a window slammed on you in a hint to leave.

Yes, I sometimes feel rushed when ordering food.

I feel more rushed at a fast food restaurant. You're standing in line, with people waiting behind you. It's not like you can spend all day trying to figure out what you want to order. People are waiting, so you got to be quick.

In a restaurant, it's a bit easier I guess because you can ask for more time if you need it. Plus, waiters are usually busy with other customers, so you have more time to decide what you want before they come over.

Unfortunately, fast food is a highly stressful environment to work in. Each restuarant has their own set of guidelines for how fast customers must be moved through the drive-thru. Normally this might be ballpark 45 seconds to take your order and no more than 1 minute at the window. These numbers are tracked and the success of a restuarant is partially measured by it (also bonus checks). Sometimes drive-thru operators in restuarants with only one window are trying to juggle talking to two people at once while counting money and making drinks and getting yelled at for common mistakes in any industry with sometimes 120% employee turnover in year. If you don't want to feel rushed or don't know what you want, I'd suggest coming inside.

Yeah dude that really pisses me off! Majority of the time there is no line so what is the rush about? I think they do this so that you do not change your mind and go somewhere else because if you do not order quick they disappear in the back and then you have to wait for them to come back. On top of that they just stand there and stare at you like that is gonna help you make up your mind quicker, DAMN THEM!

Yes, certainly I feel rush whenever I visit a restaurant and the waiter waits near me to take down the orders. But now, I feel the new form of the Digital Restaurant Menu will eradicate this feeling of us. It enables us to place orders by giving us our suitable time.

I don't feel rushed when I'm deciding what to order and the cashier is waiting but I do feel rushed if I'm in the line and someone keeps inching forward behind me with that "come on already!" look on their face.

Yes, I definitely feel rushed at a place to eat. I need time to look over the menu and pick through my choices. I think they need to give you a little more space when you look so you don't feel rushed.

YES, esp at Burger King. There was one time the drive thru lady asked me THREE TIMES if I was ready yet to order. There were no cars behind me, and I wasn't taking that long. I finally asked her if she was in a hurry.

No, but I always feel rushed after I've paid and receive my change, kind of like I'm holding up the line when I'm putting my money back in my purse.
