hall of fame"?

note: I am asking this question out of curiousity, as I find his many of his lyrics very trite and cliche, and not to say I am "better than him" in any way.

Bob Seger is credited by many to have been the inspiration for such musicians as John Mellencamp (once known as John Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp) and a somewhat lesser known group called the Michael Stanley Band, which some of my friends from Ohio said were pretty good. I'm not so certain....
That's about all I know, except that he was a decent musician who was at least somewhat unique from many others during his heyday. Other than that, all I have to add is that there are many, many individuals and groups who make me scratch my head when I see they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think they keep adding artists to that venue to keep people going to Cleveland! (Just joking, you Indians and Browns fans!) :-)

Bob Seger has done more than enough to justify his being in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. His career has spanned five decades. He has released classic albums such as Night Moves, Stranger in Town, Against the Wind, and The Distance, not to mention quite possibly the greatest live album ever, Live Bullet. His two greatest hits albums are comparable in quality to any artists/bands. He defined Midwestern and specifically Michigan rock in the '70s and '80s with his hard work and constant touring. He is beloved in Michigan. He puts on a better show at 60 than most bands half his age. He has influenced artists of the '70s, '80s, '90s, and '00s. He has stayed true to his sound and music despite the changing tides of rock music through the last half century. He remains one of the nicest, most genuine guys in the music business. Need more reasons, go see him live in concert; you will NOT be disappointed.

If Bob Seger's lyrics are "trite and cliche," it's because younger generations have made them so by copying his style and his lyrics over and over and over again. I think the younger generations wish that they could have created a sound like that on their own. THAT'S what makes him great!

I don't think you've listened to his songs then...I'm totally befuddled. Bob Seger IS a true legend. His songs evoke such powerful passion.

a lot. night moves. stranger in town. against the wind. songs played on radio, television, advertisements, movies...grammy awards...multi-million album sales...popularity....

yes, it was earlier in his career, not current. but it seems like the hall of fame should include people so influential and successful in the industry, regardless of when this occurred.
