Keep in mind that if you go to a website (such as ipchicken.com) to find your IP address it will show your *public* address. This means the address that is available to "the world". If you have a firewall or router you computers ip address will be different than the public one. To find your computers local, or internal, address you will have to use the CMD window. (Start >> Run >> type CMD >> click OK)

start: Run: cmd (to open the command or dos prompt)
then use netstat to get the computer names of the IPs you are connected to and that are connected to your computer
netstat -n will give you the numerical values.
example use: c:\netstat "enter"
Result computer name 1 to computer name2
repeats for all computers connected.

c:\netstat -n "enter"
Result: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 (just an example of an IP address)

if you need to know your IP address as seen by web browsers then you can do that by going to network connections and looking up the properties and status tabs.

or using the websites http://www.grc.com or http://whatismyip.com/

unsure why you may want to do it that way, yet here is what i got here across on my XP device. on the command instantaneous, you want to apply the "netsh interface ip set address" command. Use a question mark on the tip of the command to get extra info.

the screen will show:
C:\(may have more here, doesn't matter):
so type in ipconfig after the C:\ thing
C:\:ipconfig
it will show all your connections and the ip addresses
or go to easywhois.com(http://easywhois.com/?mode=myip).
