At what point does one stop knowing "nothing about" a subject? Only when one starts learning about it. As for "playing" with Powers--that judgement can only be made on a person by person basis. Pagans don't proselytize--but we're happy to answer questions, and we welcome those who want to learn. Nothing wrong with that, and I find it far more polite than trying to push a belief on anybody.

Not ALL who look to Paganism are wannabe's..that's like saying that anyone looking at the Christian, Jewish or Catholic faiths are wannabe's.
A believe becomes more widespread because of its availability to be looked at, investigated and even tried out...before a committment takes place.
Personally, I don't find anything wrong with people doing this...of course there are good and bad to it all...and if a belief truly has the "power" to create good, bad or otherwise...then like all other beliefs, this is just something that will happen regardless of who thinks otherwise.
This "wannabe" title is nothing more than a label placed on others by those who think they know all about a specific area of life...so that in turn makes them "wannabe" intellects...which is also, not always the case.

Forgive my saying so but that's not a very pagan statement. Pagens by nature don't judge and they don't preach so the very validity of your question is null.
But to answer it anyway - doesn't everyone start out knowing nothing? Whether your theology at some point you knew very little about it. Does that mean that when you're just starting out you don't prey? Or meditate? Or discuss? It's the same thing.
I wonder about the motivation of your question. Was it to show you how many pagans were online right now? Or are you maybe curious about learning something new and don't quite know the right way to start? Either way I wish you wisdom and grace.
Blessings,
Zimmi

I don't think that he is talking about people who are seriously looking into it as a path in life. I think he is talking about the type people who pick up tarot cards at Barnes and Noble then without any attempt at understanding what they are doing, start "reading" everyone they can without an inkling as to what they are doing.
Or the group of middle school kids that get spells online and then try them without any proper research and guidance, or even awareness that everything you send out comes back.
I also have a "problem" with that sort of thing and try to warn people, but usually I get, "oh, it's just a game". Sheesh.
Perhaps this posting is about that sort of thing and not about discouraging people from finding their own path.
Happy New Year, and may I remind everyone that the full moon is on the third. I plan to celebrate my hemisphere's return towards the sun and the gathering of light, the fact that Persephone is heading back North, and I will see my daffodils soon enough! lol!
Blessings all!- dd

Who are you to judge who is a "wannabe" and who isn't? True, some are more...fluffy, but that isn't wannabe. It's more like ignorant.
And if they want to play with something they don't know anything about, maybe it'll teach them a lesson when they get burned.

Wow, this is a totally unpagan thing to say. Pagans are not christians.. we don't go out of our way to proselytize others, nor do we spurn those who ask sincere questions. We don't consider people "wannabes" who are looking to follow a positive spiritual path.

Everyone has to start somewhere. How are they going to learn if they don't ask questions? This isn't Harry Potter, they're not going to accidentally set their frogs on fire or turn themselves into jelly beans. Sounds to me like the real wannabe is the one who posted this question.

Listen my advice to you is to forgive all those kids in school who called you a nerd gave you wedgies and beat you up all the time. Get on with your life. I know pretending your a wizard helps you deal with it all but its time to grow up.
Dont be a elitest geek and embrace your nerd brothers and sisters.
