If I've just lost a very close friend for a pathetic reason, I go forward. Obviously because I want to find out why it ended up like this. It's not against my better judgement, it's instinct. I don't go back all the time, I just leave most situations as is. Sometimes it's just not worth it to spend your time and go after something that you can't every get back. That's called common sense. If the situation needs to be found out, I go after it and try to figure everything out.

Yes. Points of no return are only represented by a wall. And if I go forward I'll be able to destroy it and find something behind that wall. There are no points of no return really.

You can't go back when you are at the point of no return. Where else is there to go. I guess you could stagnate or go forward. I choose to move on.
Happy New Year.
