don't know if male or female. i am a male and just (well, 6 months of work) lost 50lbs. i love dressing up with sport coats and nice shirts and slacks now. before i would just do it cuz i had to for a function or work. now i look for opportunities cuz i am proud of the hard work and just want to enjoy not looking in the mirror and being disgusted. sure, my girl dumped me when i was heavier and hasn't seen the new me, but i don't care anymore. this is for me. so......set a date for a nice dinner somewhere at a month or so in the future then the two of you work hard to shed her/his weight leading up to that date. MAKE HER/HIM DO IT. she/he will hate you every minute but keep the goal in mind. in the end she/he will be so grateful for helping him/her get there and look good...FOR /HIMHER! my ex never helped me, just bitched at me for being bigger and not taking better care but she never had any ideas or helped me get on a plan...just bitched. good luck to you.

I understand how your wife feels, when I've put on some extra weight, I don't feel like shopping( when a women feels fat, the dressing room is hell for us). The next problem is nothing nice in the closet fits, so she has nothing pretty to put on to go out. I know all a bout this because I recently had surgery, and have not been able to exercise, like I'm used to, I have put on 12 pounds, and the only thing that fits, our my sweat clothes, went shopping to have something to wear for all the holiday parties, depressing, left the mall with nothing, avoided most of the invitations. Please don't critize her weight, but you could try one thing. Look in her closet, and find an outfit that used to fit her, sneak off to the mall(with outfit), and ask a saleslady to help you find something similar, but one size bigger, wrap it up, keep reciept, suprise your wife with the gift. Just tell her, "I saw this, and thought it would look great on you, but I don't know anything a bout women's sizes, so here is the reciept". That way she will have at least one outfit, or she will be forced to get to the store to exchange it. Now would you do me a favor, and tell my husband to do the same for me??

Your spouse needs motivation to WANT to go out. DO YOU compliment her on how nice she looks? Fat or thin! And, yes I agree with other responders, join a gym together. Go for walks and bike rides....help her. You'll be helping yourself along the way.

If you do the meal planning in the household change the plan. Start tomorrow with different foods and portion control. You have to take control to help your spouse. Once they see that you're trying to help them then maybe they'll run with it. Good luck.

the problem might be that she just doesn't have anything that fits anymore, or what she does have that fits makes her feel self conscious. tell her that you will take her out and buy her a new outfit or two if you can start going out to dinner again.

Talk to your spouse. We can't help you much. See if he/she is depressed, as depression can cause changes in weight and metabolism.
