I spent 12 years as a shift manager for Taco Bell, and when I started out the emphasis was on getting the order right no matter how long it took. That focus has shifted to getting the order out in the shortest amount of time nowadays. This shift began when Pepsi acquired more restaurants and made a separate company to handle them called Tricon, which eventually became Yumcon. It now owns Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Long John Silvers, Pizza Hut, and A&W. The idea is that the faster you can move people thru the drive-thru, the more money you can make. They expect 60% of all orders to be out the window in less than one minute from the time the car reaches the window, regardless of the size of the order. The stress and pressure this puts on window clerks is enormous. In pursuit of this goal they have generally eliminated putting any napkins or sauce in bags, because that takes .... time. Taco Bells policy is one sauce for every two items, and one napkin for every item. So if you order a 10 pack of tacos, you get 5 sauces and 10 napkins, And in the rush to beat the clock orders get messed up a lot. I absolutely recommend checking your bag before you leave any Yumcon store, and get their 1 800 number. It should be printed somewhere on your bag or cup, and use it. Call in a general complaint that you'd rather have what you paid for with better service than getting it superfast.

far more annoying, or pathetic (take your choice) is that line of 15 cars....all burning fuel waiting IN those lines! unless you're so feeble you can't get out of the car and actually STAND for 10 minutes, why not go inside. it's not just the waste of fuel, but 90% of the time, i get served before the 8th car in the drive-in does! yes, i am that observant that i can say that.
i can then 1. check my order for accuracy/napkins/ condiments. 2. save time. 3. save gas. i WILL use the drive thru if it's nearly vacant, but otherwise, gimme a break!

Yes, that is why I keep napkins in the car, that and the fact that I have an 8 month old daughter

Yes, one time we got 49 $ order at KFC, took it 150 miles then found no forks, spoons, knives, plates or napkins, took the receipt to the manager to complain he gave me 2 coupons for a 2 piece chicken meal, that was not enough!

I hate it when they get anything wrong. It's a drive-through for cryin' out loud. It's not like I can just walk up to the counter to remedy the incorrect item.

I also hate (I know I'm alone on this one) the expectation that I'll have my money waiting for them as I pull up to the window. It's not like I prepared the cash while I was driving or like I knew what the price was before they told me. I see drive-through as a convenience more than a way to break a pit stop record. In n Out Burger has it right. Pay at one window, no hurry. Pick up at the next window, no worry.

I always ask for extra napkins as a rule for just that reason.
