k 1st question
a recrd store is having a sale during wich all items will be sold at 25% less than their marked price . how much will a CD marked at $16 sell for ?
this is a goodway to lead to the next probs, 25% less is = to 1/4. so the price of the CD is being discounted by 1/4 the new price is then equal to 3/4 (4/4 - 1/4) so the answer would be

16$x3/4

(16/1)x(3/4)=48/4=12/1=12

k 2nd question part B, the 5000$ he invested grew 13% so he has gained 650$, the new value of the stock is the original amount he paid plus the growth (5000+650)= 5650$ is the value of the stock
____________________________________________________

a.40%=40/100=4/10=2/5

b. 55%=55/100=11/20

c. 62.5%= 62.5/100=625/1000= 5/8

a. 3/5=6/10=60/100=60%

b. 29/40=72.5% (use a calculator and divide 29 by 40 then multiply by 100 to get the percent)

c.5/4= 125/100=125%

A. 25% of $16 is $4. 25% off of the $16 is figured as $16 - $4 is $12.

B. You have the amount earned. Add this to the original value of the stock to get the present value of the stock. $5000 + $650 = $5650.

C. 40/100 = 40%
55/100 = 55%
62.5/100 = 62.5%

D. 3/5 -- 3 divided by 5 = .60, or 60%
29/40 -- 29 divided by 40 = .725, or 72.5%.
5/4 -- 5 divided by 4 = 1.25, or 125%

A.

If the marked price is $16, then the sales price = 25% less so

sale price = (1-25/100)*16 = (3/4)*16 = $12

B.

New value is 5000 + (13/100)*5000 = (1+13/100)*5000 = 1.13*5000 = $5650

(in other words just add on the amount earned - $650 - to the original investment)

C.
They are already expressed as fractions with 100 as a denominator - perhaps the question is not copied right?

Perhaps they want them to be reduced so

a. 2/5
b. 11/20
c. 31/50

D.
Just multiply by a 100, so

a. (3/5)*100 = 60%
b. (29/40)*100 = 29*100/40 = 29*5/2 = 29*5/2 = 72.5%
c. (5/4)*100 = 500/4 = 500/4 = 125%

A. 16 - .25 = 12 dollars

B. 5000 x .13 = 650 therefore stock value is 5000 + 650
= 5650 dollars

C. 40/100 = 40% or .4 (divide 100 into 40)
55/100 = 55% or .55
62.5/100 = 62.5% or .625

D. 3/5 = 3 divided by 5 = 60%
29/40 = 72,5%
5/4 = 125%
in the last one you for example you could say
4 = 100%
5 = x %

then x % = 5 x 100 divided by 4 = 125 %

You can get the answer two differrent ways.
First sub tract 25% fro 100% getting 75%, then multiply .75 times $16 getting $12. Second way is to multiply 25% time 16 getting .25 times 16 = 4, and then subtract $4 from $16 getting $12

The new valuue of the stock is equal to the original value plus the increase in value which is simply $5000 + $650 = $5650

40/100 % = 0.4/100
55/100 % = .55/100
62.5/100% = 0.625/100

3/5 = 60/100 = 60%
29/40 = 72.5/100 =72.5%
5/4 = 1.25 = 125%

16-4=$12
Answer is $12

B....the new value of the stock would be $5650 Just added the interest to the old investment value.

C.....they are already in fraction form

D...60%
72.5%
125%

Just divide the numerator by the denominator

D take the denominator and divide it into 100 then take that answer and multiply the top figure by it in example

3/5 100 divided by 5 equals 20 therefore 20 multiplied by 3 equals 60 so the answer is 60%

hope that this helps
