I'm not quite sure what you mean by the search history; however, I will try to answer your question with a variety of solutions that will not require additional software.
1. For pages you recently visited and can be found in the "History" folder of your IE browser, you can right-click on the website link and choose "Delete" from the menu.
2. For pages that appear in the address bar (the place where you type in "http://www.yahoo.com"), please do the following steps To The Letter! Failure to do so may cause your computer to have unwanted performance.
* Click "Start" > Choose "Run" > Type "regedit" in the "Open" field and hit Enter.
* In the folder tree on the left, right-click on "My Computer" and choose" export.
* In the opened window, make sure the "Export Range" is selected to "All". Choose a place to save the file in that will be easy to remember. (This is the backup file just in case something goes haywire. I normally just choose the Desktop for ease of finding and deleting the file afterwards.) Type a name in the "File Name" field and hit Enter. Wait for about one minute as the backup file is created (the screen may not respond and hang but don't panic, this is normal.) Move on to the next step once this is finished.
* You should now see the original folder tree and the left and a navigation pane on the right side. On the folder tree, expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder by clicking on the plus sign next to it (do NOT double-click). > Still on the left side folder tree, expand the "Software" folder under that category. > Next, expand the "Microsoft" folder. > Expand the "Internet Explorer" folder. > You should now find a folder that says "TypedURLs." Click once on that folder and notice that on the right side all of the website and links you typed into the address bar.
* To delete a link, right-click the url# field on the right pane (where # denotes a number from 1-25) and choose "Delete" from the menu.
NOTE: Before deleting, make sure you remember what URL # it is. This is important for the following reasons:
*If you delete a URL that is an ending number, i.e. there are 10 Typed URLs and you delete URL 10, no further action is necessary.
*If you delete URL 9 instead of 10 however, you will have to right-click on URL 10, choose "Rename," and name it URL 9. In short, the url#'s must go in order without skipping any number in between.
HINT: Usually if I need to delete a URL that's in the middle somewhere, say url6 from a list of url1-url20, I right-click on it, choose "Modify," and type in a link I want in the "Value data:" field and hit enter. For the sake of naming convention and avoid random errors, the field should be entered in as "http://_______ . ___."
Hope this helps. Remember to back up the registry first. If anything goes wrong go to this link to restore originally functioning registry before the changes: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

One such fantastic software which help you in clearing the search history is IE Privacy Manager .
IE Privacy Manager is a unique utility to help you to show only the URLs and history items that you want to see in the Internet Explorer. It not only erases typed urls, history, and other personal information, it also erases information stored in hidden index.dat files, without even restarting your operating system.

Click on "Tools," then click on "Delete Browsing History."
If you used your search engine to find the site, click on the icon next to search box, and then click on "clear search history." This will delete it also from your search history. You can also delete it from your history pane too.
