What is wrong with celebrating Hogmanay alone? When your head clears on New Year's day, after celebrating with people whose company may not be welcome during the rest of the year, has your mortgage reduced, your debts shrunk, and have you made new long term friends? Hogmanay is a short lived reality forgetting evening.

I have been there - it isn't a great New Year here in Scotland - the Weather has called a halt to all the celebrations in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Have a Happy New Year - At least you can look forward to waking up without a hangover tomorrow - a better way to bring in a year anyway. I once brought in the bells writing a marketing assignment with two colleagues - I enjoyed being sober when I drove them home and laughing at the state of the revellers!!!

This is my seventh year without company on New Years Eve... not through choice, through circumstance.

My family live far away, all my children save one do... and my youngest son who lives with me currently, works in a bar and celebrates with them and will be going on to a party later, but he just this minute phoned to wish me happiness because he wont have time later... and so wont be home until tomorrow, so, it's me and the ol' dog again, alone:-)

That's sadly what divorce, widow-hood and single status, does to most of us past sixty, anyway. Since every couple will be one alone, one day in the future.

I remember seven round our table, for so many years, with lots of tears and laughter... and yes, I shed a tear or two this time of year, because I miss them all. But I also know that they are safe and with their own.

I raise a glass to them, to everyone alone, to everyone everywhere...

I raise it to you as well now friend...

Happy New Year and God Bless to everyone as well, and may every dream you dream become reality in 2007 for you all.
