The Joker, hands down. Why you ask? Because Joker is smarter, crazier, and all around just more dangerous than Riddler. First off, Joker doesn't leave clues behind for Batman to follow, he commits crimes for laughs and nothing else. He's the Clown Prince of Crime and the only thing that matters to him is satisfying both his greed and his hedonistic need for amusement, it doesn't matter to him if anyone understands his madness as long as he himself gets the joke. Riddler on the other hand, is a self-destructive fool who always brings about his own downfall because he keeps giving Batman hints as to the nature of his plans, he gets so caught up in his intellectual need for a true battle of wits that he ends up ruining his own schemes. Its like he wants to be caught! Joker enjoys outsmarting Batman and the challenge involved in taking him down, but he doesn't give the Dark Knight the knowledge he needs to win! Furthermore, Joker's a much more deadly combatant than Riddler, who usually relies on his weapon loaded cane, loads of traps, and an endless supply of goons to do his fighting for him. Joker uses minions and traps too, but he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty (especially in the new series, The Batman, in which he is portrayed as being a deadly acrobatic with hand to hand combat skills that almost put Batman's moves to shame). Also, Joker's wild imagination has granted him a much wider array of gadgets and weapons ranging from acid spraying flowers to exploding parade balloons full of laughing gas (he's always thinking up something new). Joker is also a hell of a lot crazier than Riddler, and that alone gives him that much more of an edge in battle (intimidation is the key, wouldn't you be scared if you met someone who laughs like a kid in a candy store while shooting people full of lead?). Last but not least, the most important reason as to why Joker would definitely crush the Riddler is the fact that out of all the villains Batman has faced, no one has come closer to defeating him than The Joker. Bruce Wayne has stated on countless occasions that Joker is by far is deadliest opponent, even to other heroes like Super Man and later on Terry from Batman Beyond. If Bats thinks Joker is the Baddest of the Bad, then he is definitely the Baddest of the Bad.

An interesting question but some clarification. Are they fighting each other? Or in a long gang war.

In hand to hand the Joker is going to win. He has gimmicks and manical strength.

In a long term fued it will be the Riddler. He will manipulate the Joker, the Joker is wild, but he follows certain patterns and has an ego the Riddler can exploit. The Riddler will play him making him think he has the advantage. Then the Joker will be locked up, of course I feel sorry for Riddler when he gets out.

An insane man is harder to predict than a smart man.

So... it's the Joker.

But if it's the Batman movies, I vote for the Riddler, Jim Carrey's the Riddler is more Joker than Jack Nicholson's the Joker.

The Joker, of course. The Riddler still has that attachment to reality, the Joker has since lost that. He'll kill the Riddler if he gets tired of him. They never really got along anyway.

Hmm. If given time to prepare, I'd say the Riddler would win, as he is so much smarter than the Joker.

In hand-to-hand combat, Joker. In coolness, and if the battle was a long one, Riddler.
