Because I have to. Words are like air, writing is like breath for me. It's not because I think my thoughts are better than any one elses or so profound that they will change the world but simply because I need to get them out. Everytime I write a story, a poem, an essay, there is another one just behind it that has room to form. So, in short, it's a need. A need to create, a need to communicate, a need that gives me the feeling of being alive. But that's just me.

I can't tell you. Every author has their own writing style. And even that could change as they write books. It is whatever way you want to write it. I'm writing a book and at first I tried writing it in order from beginning to end but it became too boring. I made it to the 7th chapter and wanted to quit because I became tired of it. So I started to write it backwards from the ending to what I had and that became too hard. So right now I'm jumping around. I'm writing chapter 8 and if I have any ideas for the ending or for future chapters I write them down. In my opinion you need to find your own style. Start going through your idea of the story and write notes and stuff for each chapter. You should be able to tell how you want to start writing the book. But don't get aggravated if you end up changing that style. Good luck with the story and I hope this helps

Stories are simply a metaphore for life. Humans have reason and we can reflect on our state and stories naturally help us do this.

Here are some examples:

For example, when you ask someone who just watched or read "Lord of the Rings" what it's about, they'll probably say something like, "it's an epic story about a hobbit who is given a huge responsibility to take a magical ring into a mountain to destroy it and save the world and elves and men unite to....etc.." Or they may answer "It's about Middle Earth". These are not themes. The first is simply the premise. The latter is the setting. What the story is *really* about is: "Freedom is attained when we risk and sacrifice ourselves." That is the controlling idea (the theme) of the story.

Harry Potter's premise contains magic, and the setting is in a fantasy land, but the theme is not about magic nor fantasy. The theme of Harry Potter might be: "Happiness prevails when we are confident of our own gifts and individuality."

These stories are exciting to read but at the heart of them this meaning is what we keep and why authors write stories to tell us what they think life is like.

It's not for the money. Less than 5% of published writers make a living at writing. People still write, though, because they have a story to tell and one they want to share.

Sometimes the only way you can get a story out of your head is to write it. More often though, it's just too good not to share. The process of writing it also helps you develop the story and you'd be amazed at how many twists and turns a novel can take in the process of writing. It's fun, but it's also a labor of love. Getting it published is just the icing on the cake.

No real offense but surely you jest.

It's an art form that involves not only a passion to express, but a desire to "record" and share what might be pertinent to one who writes a Book, or essay.

WHY do you READ?

I suggest, as in prehistoric days; events, situations, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, recollections, even "gos(Hissssss)ip", would eventually be dilluted and lost, if not for the written word.

BTW "Spicific"??? I looked in my Websters, and can't find a definition of it? A good argument perhaps, again with no offense, for Studying, enjoying, and learning from, the written word.

I suggest, and request, you might answer with your thoughts as to WHY? you ask.

I've been a WRITER since I could;nearly 57 years ago, and have published often, not only for myself, but to "Share." SIGH.

Successful writers get paid for writing, often very well paid. J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) is the richest woman in the world.

Others just write because they like to express themselves. It makes one feel good to get ideas down on paper and then have someone else read these ideas. It's creative and fun.

Because they have one to write, an author is a creative person and as all creative people must express himself, for the same reason that an artist draws,a musician plays, a singer sings and writes. For expression of themselves and how they perceive and feel

Some authors like to write because:

- They like to entertain readers.
- They want deliver a message e.g. moral, protest.
- They want to make a profit

Generally, I think most authors love entertaining their readers by offering thrills, scares and suspension. Who doesn't love a drama?

You could also ask yourself why do I read their stories?

Authors write stories because it is a need within them, they must write just as one must breathe in order to exist.
