This is highly dependent on the crime... Saddam H should have been imprisoned in jail for the remainder of his life, as should be the case for other persons of his ilk & those who do crimes that take other lives.
However - I think capital punishment is a must for continous rapist or those that interfere with kids. The reason for continous rapist is that sometimes in a first instance proving the guilt of the rapist or whether it was consented sex is very thin & a long / life sentence is sufficient. As for those that target children .... I think these people are better of out of society for good. Please do not give me any "doe gooders" vibes.. ie the person had a similar up-bringing to their crime,,,,, well if so THESE people should know better has to how it has ruined their life.. so why ruin another life by re-inacting the same crime.
It is not a case which is the worse punishment but which is more fitting - execution is a easy way out ( if you can read between the lines to what I am implying ). Life meaning LIFE - is a fitting way to ensure that the person has a long & hard time to contemplate on his or her's crime. Furthermore, any paid work done whilst servitude is performed should not ensure extra benefits for the convict but any monies should go to the bereaved's family / partner.

probably to be executed. if you live in prison you can still learn and have contact with the world. even observe people. i think being in a prison would be interesting (although scary) but id look at it more as a sociological study than a punishment. except for that my life was ruined.
so id prefer to live. althought i think for most people living in prison is worse. if you are executed you dont really know any better cuz ur just dead.

It really depends on what you believe about what happens after you die.
If you believe that this life is it, there's nothing afterwards, then being a prisoner would be worse.
If you believe that there is an afterlife and you will be punished there for your crimes here, then being executed is worse because you have no time to try to "tip the scales" and make up for your crimes before you go to the next life.

i'm against capital punishment, yet no longer for ethical reasons. i'm completely advantageous with the unquestionably killing area. yet loss of life penalty trials are lots greater costly than existence in penal complex. And yet another subject, our judicial gadget does not have the main suitable possible song checklist whilst it includes convictions, with as many as 25 human beings on loss of life row who've these days been exonerated, convicted with fake/defective evidence, this isn't a large checklist. I''m additionally against the strategies utilized in picking which situations warrant capital punishment. How will we be certain who's crime is worse than anothers? who's loss is larger than anothers? Kill a cop, get the needle, kill a convenience shop clerk, get 12 to existence? Rape a 5 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old, get the needle, yet no longer for a 25 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old? No, existence in penal complex without threat of parole. Then, if a mistake is made, a minimum of in could be in part corrected

To live your life in a Middle Eastern prison Not knowing when your death is due on a daily basis, to be called to the execution block and be told that it has been postponed yet again.
No contact with the outside world for Saddam and a lot of his cronies is to good.

Execution is worse because it's final. A person with a life sentence can improve himself in prison and change his/her life for the better.

In a suitable prison, without any chance of parole, you can have education with books and stuff, and hopefully the guilty come to realise their crimes... and the horror of their real guilt comes to them.
Thats a better punishment than execution... and also the state can not be accused of murder punishment either.

I think to live out life as a prisoner, at least if it is with no chance of parole. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to spend your life locked up knowing you can never enjoy things outside and your loved ones ever again, I think that would be torturous and worse than death.
