How long after the snake has eaten is it OK to move it back to its home. My snakes are used to being handled and it once the food gets down a ways they don't seem to mind.

I am not asking for opinions on snakes as pets, just some advice from other snake owners. If you have such strong opinions, please "spend" your 5 points and ask your own question instead of piggy backing onto mine. Cheers.

BTW I do feed prekilled prey. The elaboration was the second part of the question.

Put the snake in first, then the feeder. If you handle the feeder first, the snake is liable to bite you when you try to handle it, and the snake should already be in the environement it's going to eat in and comfortable with that environment before introducing the feeder.

After the snake has fed, it's advisable to leave the snake in the feeder tank for at least one hour or more before handling the snake, which should allow the snake enough time to digest the feeder enough that it will not be defensive when you move to handle it again.

I put the food in with the snake and it just attacks it right away and since the food you use is prekilled then why does it need to be in another tank. I don't usually handle my snakes until they have digested and everything just because. But if it weorks for you then I guess there is no problem with it. what snakes do you have I have a false water cobra and a bull snake so it may be different depending on the type of snake.

Put the snake in first. You don't want the smell of prey on you, and you don't want to be putting the snake into the tank to feed and have him pick up the scent are get excited too early. An hour is usually good to wait until moving it back. And for everyone, feeding frozen thawed is MUCH more safe and humane for your snake, and if possible, what should be done. Understandably some won't learn it, or go off f/t, but you should attempt to get your snake on f/t because it'll be much better off.

hm. I thought you were asking one question at first, then you asked a completely different one in your elaboration. Strange. Anyway, I don't have any snakes but have several friends who always had them. They used to drop the food (usually a small live mouse) into the tank that the snake is already in. Then the snake will find it and attack.

Either Put Him In A Cloth Bang Are Another Tank! Most Pet Stores Will Tell You Not To Feed Them In The Same Tank They Live In!

It's best to wait an hour after the snake eats to handle him / her. I personally always put my snake in the feeding box first to avoid an accidental snake bite to myself.

i always fed my snake IN it's tank. I put the (live) mouse in (the snake was already in there) and it would grab it, suffocate it and eat (my snake never would touch prekilled)( no one ever told me about having to move it to feed it, but this was a pretty long while back

i feed most of my snakes in their regular enclosures unless i have 2 snakes in one cage. in that case i move one to a seperate feeding crate.

i always put the snake in first then the food because i prefer to offer my snakes the prey by hand (or with tongs) so they strike and constrict instead of just picking it up off the ground. alot of my snakes will eat F/T but only if its "moving".

i usually wait one hour after they finish eating to move them back to their normal enclosures.

i always put the mouse in first so that my snake doesn't think mice come from the sky. he doesn't seem to mind when i move him back to his normal tank.
