Can you love America while disagreeing with the president?

When Conservatives disagreed with Clinton, did "Liberals" accuse them of hating America?

I love my country dearly, that is why I am afraid for her under Bush's watch. It's part of our American legacy to be free to criticize our public officials, yes, even the President. If I met the man tomorrow I would show him the respect accorded the office, but that would be all he would get from me. God forbid he should ask me what I think about the war. President or not I would answer him with what I really feel. It's wonderful to be American, I am very grateful for my freedoms.

EDIT: What is up with these people slamming others for calling themselves Americans? It isn't only we who call ourselves that, most of the world refers to us as "the Americans." Talk about ridiculous nitpicking.

Yes. At any given time, the President is a temporary figurehead that essentially represents the typical American mindset to the rest of the world. If you are proud of the accomplishments of America, and love your country for what it is, that doesn't necessarily mean you agree with or even like the current authority one person is not the entire essence of America EVER. That is part of what makes us unique, just b/c we may not all agree with our leader at the moment, we can still function and use those leaders to better ourselves and our condition.

I can indeed love it. Love it enough to be scared and disgusted when an administration tries to gut the Constitution, which is what this country really "is." (pun intended, if ya got it)

I can love it enough to know that our civil liberties are being ground into the dirt, and that anyone....ANYONE can be arrested and whisked away to a cell without legal representation if they think (even incorrectly) that you constitute some vague "threat." Ya. We don't need no stinkin' habeus corpus.

I can love my country enough to get out and vote, which, by the way, a LOT of people did in the mid-terms, and they demonstrated a big change of attitude about things.

I can love my country enough to exercise my right to dissent, and shout that what any American citizen borrows from his public library is NObody's freakin' business.

If, as they had hoped (and "prayed"), the religious right had slipped into power (via elected legislators) they would be delighted to exercise their EXPRESSED agenda to control what we think, read, see, hear.

Ya, I love my country, and hate to see it torn down by people intoxicated with power and wealth.

Until big business and nuclear weapons became the main factor and greed took over America had the look of a great and caring nation now well judge for your self.

Why do you keep referring to the United States as "America"? We live in the Untied States. North America INCLUDES Canada; Brazil, Venezuela, other countries are in South America and then there is also Central America. I've been saying it for months and I will continue to correct United STATERS that these other countries are more American than we are!
The United States does not OWN North, Central or South America. In fact, those countries have practically divorced themselves from the United States.
Take anoither look at a map.
and Yes I love the United States!

Disagreeing publicly with the government is the greatest exercise in freedom and as American as apple pie.

PS I love America but Hate Bush's policies

PPS America is not a continent. North America is and South America is. And its not the "United States". Its the "United States of America". "Americans" denotes citizens of "the United states of AMERICA"

Love of country is absolutely distinct from agreement with the government, the military, or US policy.
It's always been a ploy of the ruling party - particularly in times of war - to accuse those who disagree with presidential views, etc, of subversion lack of patriotism.

Don't be fooled...

I love my homeland no matter who is President. I may disagree with whatever choices they make and I may even express my opinion. But always with the respect due the office of that official. This stupid infighing you mention is trivial and meaningless. It's just a p*ssing contest.

Can you consort with Satan and love Jesus?

I never in my wildest moments attacked Clinton the way Bush is being attacked.

And I take perjury as a slam to the entire US justice system.
