cristene, you can't MAKE anyone do something they don't want.
But you and try charm, casual conversation, and be pleasent.
Make a list of free things to do, places to go, events and shows.
Like the home improvment shows Home and garden shows, community fairs. You could suggest your going to attend and would enjoy company be sure to go even if your alone. You just might meet someone who is alone also.

You cannot MAKE someone like you.Just be yourself,if they like you fine if not oh well move on.
