I prefer NOT to use air fresheners, etc. because I have a 3 year old who has just gotten out of the hospital with pneumonia. It seems I have heard of boiling vinegar but I can't remember for sure. Thanks to anyone that has a suggestion.

Boiling vinegar & water will do the trick or you can boil lemon juice & water, or boil orange peels & water too.

Boiled vinegar would certainly be more caustic and strong than air fresheners. Open some windows, turn the furnace to "fan on" so it circulates and cleans the air. Possibly burn a candle.

If the house gets cold, shut one bedroom door and stay in there to play with your son for an hour. The house will warm back up fast. Then bake some cookies. That always makes the place smell better.

Yup, boil vinegar or lemons in water. It should indeed take away the smell of fried foods. you could also put some spices in some aawater and boil that. I love the scent of applejuice and pumpkin pie spices. It make sthe house smell like I've been baking! I pit about 1/4 cup of apple juice in 2 cups of water, and add a teaspoon of the spices.
