You'd have to grind the end off of a rivet to break the chain. A bearing supply house might have a master link.

Answer is you can't because getting the chain back together PROPERLY requires the tool. If you're really hard up, try Walmart because they have them. So does Kmart, ***** Sporting Goods, possibly Sports Authority, and I think Target. If you can wait a few days, order one from Amazon or eBay. Or hey, here's one: A bike shop. Save yourself the frustration. Chains are expensive now, get the tool.

Use a punch( straight) the same diameter or smaller. Back the link with the vise or a small socket so the pin will drive through. You must remove two links to reassemble the chain. (male and female links. Reassemble and peen over the replaced pins. Done

Grind the end of the pin off,drive it through with a small diameter punch.You can get a master link at Napa or you can try your local hardware store ,they carry them most of the time.Lawnmower shops and tractor supply shops also have master links.Good Luck.

grind off the rivit heads from one side of a single chain link then pry off the plate from that side. auto parts and hardware stores usually carry master links

a hammer and a pin punch on the connecting link...maybe you should get a bicycle chain and practice.
