The actual area 51 does exist. It IS a military base. And if you go onto wikipedia, type in area 51, it will give u its exact location. Then all you need to do is either go there or look it up on google earth and see satelite pictures of it.
Whether or not it containes all the fabled alien technology is in despute but highly unlikely. The history behind it is science fiction but the actual base is real. Maybe its closed down by the military, maybe not, but the books and sceptics who think that spaceships are there are wrong.

It's a real place...The Groom Lake Base is this top-secret military base located 90 miles north of Las Vegas (which is in Nevada). It's in grid number 51 of the Nevada Test Site, so it's called Area 51. The United States Air Force Flight Test Center controls the base. It's best known for testing exotic aircraft and weapons. The base was created in 1954 as a place to test the secret U-2 spyplane that was used to fly missions over the Soviet Union. Then it started to house the SR-71, A-12 and D-21 drone. The F-117A was tested there, also. In the 1980's the base increased in size, along with the runway (which increased to the present 6 miles). Then, mysterious lights began to appear, and armed guards known as the cammo dudes started patrolling the border. The government closed many viewpoints from which the Area 51 base could be seen. In 1989, a "physicist" named Bob Lazar claimed that he worked at a base south of Area 51 and also claimed that Area 51 was testing extremely advanced aircraft and UFO's they got by trading with the aliens. Since then, Area 51 has been thought to be the test center of captured UFOs because of the lights in the night sky.

Area 51 is not science fiction. It is located in the Nevada desert 90 miles north of Las Vegas. It is in grid # 51 of Nevada test site in Groom dry lake. It is also known as Dreamland, United States Air Force Test Flight Center and The Skunkworks. It is a top secret base where many of America's most important military aircraft were developed. It is home to Northrup Aviation's experimental aircraft division known as the Skunkworks. The bases extremly remote location affords the U.S. with the privacy needed to develop such airplanes as the SR-71 Blackbird and the F117 Stealth Fighter. There is a strictly enforced no-fly zone over the base and the ground of the base is patrolled by armed personell in 4-wheel drive vehicles and is monitored by high-tech devices that detect if someone has wandered onto base property. If caught on the base, the guards have the authority to shoot to kill.

Area 51 is in Nevada. It is currently called Air Force Flight Test Center, Detachment 3. The source listed below gives the longitude and latitude for its location. As for the claim that it is used to test "alien technology", that is just a bunch of sci-fi nonsense.

sure is,aka nellis air force base. do a satellite search on rachel, nevada. it is the closest small town. there will be a large dry lake bed (groom lake) nearby, and when you close in you will see a runway, facilities, helicopters, several fighter jets, huge sat. dishes. it was started and used by lockheed's skunkworks to test "sensitive aircraft," mainly the u2 and then the a-12 (sr-71 blackbird). (this according to ben rich's "skunk works." rich ran skunk works for a while, and was the mind behind the stealth fighter concept (have blue). the story goes that area 51 became too well known and the good stuff was moved elsewhere.

It is just outside the town of Rachel, Nevada. I've been in the desert outside of Area 51 for the hell of it and camped out in the middle of no where. It was cool. All through the night you hear jets taking off.

actually there really is an area 51 in new mexico. my sister's father in law was actually offered a job there and they gave him a tour of the entire place (amazing, im so jealous) but he's sworn to secrecy to never say what he saw or his life could probably be over...he is not under constant, secret government watch to make sure he never leaks anything out. the place is out in the desert and he said that if you drive too far into the desert there are men standing around that will make you turn around and not let you get any further...i think its kind of neat.
