I think the more you look at it, democracy is not too indifferent too the film 1984! Only the Nazis arn't in power!

I seem to be seeing a few things here with democracy!

1. Big Brother IS watching you!

2. Where is the FREEDOM of speech?

3. Also even though you guys might not admit it, but we are being designed slowly to conform! Do as I say... Not what you feel like doing!

4. FREEDOM... at an inflated price... here is your Tax bill for breathing our cr*p air quality!

I think you guys get the general idea...

Thanks... tell me your vision of Democracy?

Peace everyone! Happy New Year!

Democracy does not exist! The US is a Republic not a Democracy read the constitution Article IV section 4. They are two very different forms of government. Just because we have elections does not constitute a democracy. If we were a democracy as the president and other say we are then they would be completely subservient to the will of the people. But they aren't subservient to our will are they, and its because we are not a democracy.

As for the rest here are my answers.

1. So what let big brother watch me he will only die from bordom.

2. Freedom of speach is still here you just have to realize that you just can't go around shouting fire in a crowded theatre.

3. Congratulations you have hit the hammer on the head of the nail. Be careful big brother is watching you.

4. Mark the bill return to sender and change your address, don't forget to buy stock in Prozac.

Happy New Year I hope.

Democracy is just an illusion.

Every four years or so our elected representatives actually want to know us when they come round knocking on our doors in the hope we will vote for them.

However, once they are safely back in power they just totally disregard our views, do not carry out the policies they have promised us they will do, and in short just implement those policies which fulfil their own hidden agenda, ie. to keep themselves in power.

The only way you can actually help to make the world a better place is firstly to ignore power crazed and two faced politicians and get involved in direct action in the areas that interest you, and secondly give a monthly contribution to a charity which works in an area you are concerned with.

As for politicians they are all a waste of space.

I live in Britain. Britain never has been a democracy. Nor has the USA, France, Spain, Canada, Australia, Norway, Russia, China, Brazil...

Many nations have democratically elected dictatorships. These are not democracies but lie and claim to be so. If I put a wig on a goat it does not make the goat a human.

Democracy has always been an illusory idea. It is after all only what the people who have control over you tell you it is.

If you only get to vote every 4 or 5 years, but those elected get to control the very air you breath every moment of every day...it is a tenuous link with the grand right that we are continuously told we have!!!!

All in all...the leaders get rich...so do their friends...and the rest of us get it firmly where we don't want it!

Happy new year to you to!!

Democracy is only a word that leaders of our country tell us we want, but it isn't truly what they are giving us. True Democracy would mean that we had control of our own destiny and not having to wait for the Country we live in to interpret it.

Peace and happiness in the New Year!

I would like to be free to ask any question on Yahoo without offending anyone. I would like to be free to succeed or fail in life. I would like to be free to vote in a government of my choice. I would like to be free to choose my religion. I would like to be free to read any newspaper or view any web site, or listen to any kind of music.I would like to be free to thank all those millions of young men who died to give us this freedom. I would like to be free to stop all the chaves destroying our freedom by enforcing big brother cameras, Open bus shelters, Iron benches and all the other things we put up with, because they think they are hard done by. and don't live in a democracy
