If you read some of the questions asked here on Answers, you will find question after question by kids just as you describe about 12- 16. And the questions they inevitably ask is most of the time related to pregnancy (whether they are or not).
And if they are preg, what should they do. It is so sad because for all the numbers that surface here on Answers, there are untold numbers of kids out there that are already preg and have no idea what is going on or what they are in for. And most of the time, without a clue who the father is, and if they know, it turns out to be another 15 yr old.
I don't think you are too old fashioned, you are really right on track, but the way our society has become so blase about things has led to the way things are now.

Actually if you wish to be really Old Fashioned this was the norm for most centuries up until after the industrial revolution. It has only been the last century as we have become more spoiled societies that this became more uncommon. Biologically it is probably more natural and normal for a 16 or 17 year old to have a child then a 33 year old. But convinences and longer life spans has made this more the norm then what nature considers the norm. Not that I am saying in anyway I adovocate one so young becoming a parent because our cultures have made then incapable of handling it. That is why the saying there is now........................................
Just because the plumbing is in does not mean the house is ready to occupy.

I agree with you. Its children having children and its not fair on either party. When i was a teenager in the 80's (so old i know) I did not know one girl who got pregnant, not one. But society treats it like the norm. Where i live (UK) we have the highest rates of teen pregnancies in Europe. Not all but the majority to it cause they think it means they don't have to work, they receive money from the government and get a free house to go with it. Where i work there is a girl who comes in as a customer and has 5 children and she is only 21. The government must be giving her thousands in tax payers money every month. Did i forget to mention they get there rent and council tax paid for by the government too. The government makes it too easy for them. The rest of us have to work for everything why shouldn't they. If they cant afford the first child they should be forced to take contraceptives to stop them having second and third children. I'm totally shocked by it the whole system.

I don't think Old Fashion has anything to do with it. The parents cannot provide a home, food, clothing, etc. There is just no way. They haven't lived enough years to have the schooling or training to provide a decent life for the child, single parent or together. The other family members should not have to raise their grankids.

I am with you on this one, I am still shocked by 13-16 year old being parents, they are children having children. I always wonder where are the parents of these children while they are out making babies, are they ignored so much at home that they feel the need to have sex and have children.

Well, here in Norway it is not common and not acceptble.I don't think it's a good idea.I met a woman from Afrika during my studies, who was 28 and had a child at the age of 14.She was still immature, not finished with her teenagehood.Y'know that kinda thing.

They are not "shocked" because it happens every day and you hear about it. The sad thing is that the baby will most likely suffer cause both parents will not be ready to settle down and poor baby will be stuck with somebody baby sitting it most of its young life.

I completely understand where you're coming from,
And I agree with you wholeheartedly,
But since when is being 16 years of age considered preteen?
