Since Cany Mans was a fast thing to try I did that. HOWEVER I get the following:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Sounds like your CD drive died. You can go to Dell, and get them to send you a new one if the computer is still under warrenty, but a trip to Office Depot, Staples, or even Wal-Mart will get you one cheaper and faster. The instruction for installing it are pretty simple, and you should have no trouble with it...just read the instructions first.

Hi, Looks like the drive letters are messed up in the BIOS try restarting the computer and press F8 before the Windows logo shows up and it will take you to a number of startup options, use arrow keys and highlight Last known good configuration and press Enter hopefully u will see ur D drive in My Computer if it still does not show up restart again and press del or F2 to get into ur BIOS setup and goto Advanced tab and it will show you whether it has registered the all the drives u have got or not (means can u see ur CD / DVD drive in it) or not, if yes restart by setting defaults in BIOS if u cannot see try auto searching for drives in the BIOS.
I hope this helps, be happy and think positive always good luck

I would visit the Dell Support website (support.dell) and try to find a driver for your drive. (Re)installing the driver may fix your problem. If not, you should probably get in touch will Dell "Technical" Support--assuming your computer is still under warranty.

NewEgg or Amazon should have good prices on new drives, if you confirm that the hardware needs replaced.

If your cd rom drive is defective, Windows will no show the drive. You might try removing and replacing the hardware, which will cause Windows Plug-n-Play to kick in. If that doesn't work, you could contact Dell for support.

did you check in the My Computer? Look around if there is a CD in there. Otherwise, it should always show D drive as a CD-Something Drive(D:) If it is not there, eject your CD drive, and put it back in. Windows finds the drive and heals itself. If it does not find it, Go into My Computer>Control Panel>Classic View(If using Windows XP)>Add Hardware>Yes, I have connected the hardware>Find the CD (D:) Drive, Click It>Next>>And windows should install it.

when you turn on your computer start tapping the F2 key as soon as you see the Dell Logo that will take you to the system setup,
once youre there hit the following combinations of keys:
ALT+E
ALT+F
ALT+B, that will take your system setup to its defaults and will detect the drives...but you will have to go back to the system setup to adjust the system time and date

You must try the Add/Remove hardware wizard.
