I have a lime tree and half the time the limes are yellow in color instead of the green you normally see in the stores. Is my lime tree a mutant?

the green limes in the store are a different kind. They grow far south of the US in Mexico where the trees need lots of heat, What you have is a Barris Lime. When it is ripe it is more yellow then green. taste is pretty close, just the color is different. The green bartenders lime doesn't grow well in the US.

It does depend upon what type of lime tree you have. There are several types, indeed.
